NBA 2018 Playoff Picture

The NBA is in its final weeks of the regular season. Wow - injuries are the major story of the end of the season right now. The defending champion Golden State Warriors are struggling to put guys on the floor to play. Will they be able to regain their health and win back to back titles? Boston has lost Kyrie Irving for several weeks, so one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference has question marks. Let's take a look at the end of the NBA season and postseason picture.

The Toronto Raptors are looking to wrap up the top seed in the Eastern Conference, with Boston locked and loaded for the second seed. That's where things get interesting. Cleveland is third, but there are 6 teams within 5.5 games. The Cavaliers are just 1.5 games ahead of the 76ers and Pacers. The Wizards, Bucks and Heat are next, but also within 1.5 games of each other. Therefore, in the final weeks, nearly anything could happen from 3-5 and 6-8.

On the outside looking in - Detroit is 5.5 games and the Hornets are 6. Those teams will have to remain red hot to get into the postseason. In fact, the Heat have 8 games left, and need just 3 wins to seal the deal. The Eastern Conference could be over by the time Easter arrives on Sunday. The Knicks, Bulls, Nets, Magic and Hawks have been eliminated.

In the Western Conference - the Houston Rockets are about ready to wrap up the top seed. The Rockets have won 9 straight games, and are 60-14. Golden State is beat up, and will be the #2 seed. After that - much like the Eastern Conference - it's up for grabs. The Trail Blazers, Thunder, Pelicans, Spurs, Timberwolves and Jazz are the teams in the postseason….

For now.. Denver is 1.5 games back and the Clippers are 2 back with 9 to go for both teams. The Lakers will be eliminated with one more loss. The Kings, Mavericks, Grizzlies and Suns are dead ducks. The Trail Blazers are 2 games up on Oklahoma City and 2.5 up on the Pelicans and Spurs. Minnesota and Utah are tied.  The Jazz, with 42 wins and winners of 9 out of their last 10 are the hottest team of any of these. Denver has a couple big games coming up this week, and Los Angeles would be impressive to get in without Blake Griffin. Minnesota at 42-32 is looking to hang on.

There is a look at the end of the NBA - and the postseason picture as it sits heading into the final week of March. It should be a great couple weeks of action on the hardwood, and some interesting games to determine postseason positioning. Enjoy the remainder of the season!
