NBA Betting - Boston Getting Massive Points Spread Against Detroit

After their crushing loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the oddsmakers sure weren’t scared to still stand behind Boston with a massive point spread to cover tonight. Sure it helps that they’re playing the woeful Detroit Pistons, but making one of the betting public’s favorite teams to play in the sportsbook unattractive isn’t exactly good business sense.
Of course, the natural reaction when you see a big spread is to cringe. But let’s keep in mind that Detroit has lost it’s last it’s last three betting matchups by -10.3 points. Those games were against Cleveland, Atlanta and Utah.
The NBA betting spread opened on this game with a -10.5 line for Boston, but it quickly normalized to a -9 line making it deservedly much more appealing.
On the road, the Detroit Pistons are betting kryptonite. They’re a paltry 2-4 ATS in their past 6 games on the road and are winless during that stretch of games. While Rodney Stuckey remains sidelined due to a bizarre listing of “dizziness”, the Pistons are an official stay-away team.
He’s the only guy reliable enough on the Pistons to keep any sort of scoring momentum rolling, and that has been a huge problem for them when they play Boston.

NBA Betting Line: Boston -9 (194.5)
Boston has never had trouble betting Detroit in the past few years. They’re 7-3 SU record in the past 10 games is hard nosed proof of past success against Detroit. But as I’ve been covering in my NBA free picks, Boston has hardly been trustworthy on the basketball spread.
The Celtics are just 1-4 ATS in their past 5 games and are 2-13-1 ATS when playing at home. Boston’s recent track record has been littered with head scratching moments.
They lost a nail-biter to Milwaukee, were upset by the Memphis Grizzlies at home by a 20-point margin and Cleveland chased them out of the building thanks to LeBron’s 30-point night.
Following betting trends is the easy part. Tracking a matchup properly is the real art of success when it comes to basketball betting. Without Stuckey, and with zero confidence surrounding the team, Detroit can’t really be bet-worthy on the road especially in Boston.
The Celtics are not the kind of team that responds to a resounding loss by laying down for their next opponent.
That’s why the betting pick tonight is on the side of the home team. Boston’s defense is still sixth when playing at home, allowing just 95.2 points per game. I can see where all the points will pour in from the Celtics, but without Stuckey I don’t know who’s going to grab the reigns in Detroit and lead this team out of the gutter.
If I absolutely have to, I’ll take Boston with the points but the most intelligent bet in this matchup is the UNDER.
