NBA Championship Futures - Could be the Lakers Year

It’s time to revisit the BetUS Sportsbook and take a look at some of the teams who have a shot to win the NBA Championship.

The NBA is now into its second half of the season, but value can definitely still be found on both contenders and long shots to take home the crown.

Let’s take a look at some of the teams that could potentially win the 2008 – 2009 NBA Championship.

1. Los Angeles Lakers +200 - - The Lakers were very close last season when losing to the Boston Celtics in the Finals. L.A. is at another level this season. So far, the Lakers have been terrific. They’ve fought through Andrew Bynum’s injury and the youngsters, including Josh Powell who put up 17 points and 9 rebounds in place of the suspended Lamar Odom in the Lakers’ last game, are playing with fire. Plus, they’ve got Kobe.

2. Utah Jazz +2000 - - The Atlanta Hawks broke Utah’s 12 game winning streak this past Wednesday night, but that shouldn’t discourage gamblers who feel that they have a shot to upset the Lakers. The frontcourt is super solid and Deron Williams might be the best point guard in the NBA right now. Coach Jerry Sloan will have these guys ready to win in the playoffs. They are a serious threat to L.A.

3. NBA Power Rankings for most of this season. Why? Because they keep winning against the spread. Well, they also have a shot at a championship.

4. Houston Rockets +2500 - - I still feel that the Rockets can challenge L.A. in the Western Conference if they buckle down and play the slow down type game that will lead them to victories. Houston is a good team. In a 7 game series they might be a great team. I’ve still got hope.

5. San Antonio Spurs +800 - - Bettors can’t forget about the consistent Spurs who still have one of the best duos in basketball in point guard Tony Parker and center Tim Duncan. The Spurs will be tough in the playoffs and nobody knows how to win a 7 game series like San Antonio does.

6. Boston Celtics +250 - - Once the Celtics get Kevin Garnett back gamblers will be able to gauge their true chances of winning the NBA Championship. They still have Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo is actually playing better than expected, when healthy, and Stephon Marbury hasn’t been a total distraction yet. They’ve got a shot but the Cavs are playing so much better this season.

Best Long Shot

Orlando Magic +900 - - Some bettors might not consider the Magic a long shot, but trust me, they are. With Jameer Nelson going down, the Magic did the right thing by trading for Rafer Alston. The odds on the Magic aren’t great, they should be closer to +2000, but they could beat both the Cavs and the Celtics in the Eastern Confernce if Dwight Howard gets off and Rafer continues to improve.

Denver Nuggets +2000 - - The Nuggets can really lose focus at times, but with Chauncey Billups calling the shots, I doubt they will lose focus in a 7 game series. If they can get ‘Melo to settle down and Chauncey step up his scoring, then this team could upset some contenders out west.
