College Ball Betting: Kansas vs OSU

Bookmark and Share by Tommy Long

Saturday at 4pm, the number one team in country, the Kansas Jayhawks are in Oklahoma to play the Oklahoma State Cowboys. This represents the first time since 1989 that the Cowboys have hosted a current number one team.

It’s been 21 years since the Cowboys hosted then number one Oklahoma 77-73, the Cowboys have only played host to a number one team three times in their history but they hold a 2-1 record in those games.

The Jayhawks have clinched a share of the Big 12 title and a win Saturday will give them their sixth straight Big 12 title. If they can win their final games versus OKS, Kansas State and Missouri, the Jayhawks can about to do what the 2008 championship team couldn’t do win at Oklahoma State, at Texas and at Kansas State. Regardless of if, they cover the spread, and based on their record, it’s not likely, this game will be an excellent test for the Jayhawks. The 2008, team lost three road games, this team has lost just the one game to Tennessee.

Despite their stellar 27-1 SU record, Kansas has been a disappointment for College basketball betting fans, going 10-14-1 against the spread so far this season. In their past 10 games, the Jayhawks have failed to cover the spread 7 times but keep in mind the line was 20 points or more in four of those games. Typically, if a bookmaker sets his line that high, he’s doing it not so much split the action between the two teams but he is just trying to avoid action on the game’s favorite.

Oklahoma State has been a little better for college basketball bettors, sitting at 19-8 SU; they have a 12-8-1 record ATS. The Cowboys are 13-1 at home this season scoring 74.6 and giving up 67.4 for a +7.2 scoring margin, it doesn’t mean much when you consider the Jayhawks are scoring 82.6 points per game and give up 63 PPG for a +19.6 scoring margin. Although things are a little tighter for the in the Big 12 as in Big 12 play, Kansas is scoring 79.8 points per game and holds a +13 scoring margin.

Currently the Cowboys are expected to be a nine seed but an upset win over the Jayhawks would be huge for their tournament positioning, moving them to the top half of a bracket. It’s unlikely, as this Jayhawks team doesn’t have the same turmoil surrounding it as the 2008 team. Back in 2008, even though they won a title, the team led by Mario Chambers and Brandon Rush suffered from in fighting and friction.

Both the 2008 championship team and this team are a credit to coach Bill Self who has the Jayhawks focused on Basketball and an NCAA Title. I doubt the Jayhawks cover the Spread in Oklahoma State but a victory is a guarantee.
