Gary Payton: The PAC-10 and his Alma Marter

Back again for the day’s second session of Payton’s Corner repping his alumni the Oregon State Beavers. Gary is talking the NCAA Basketball conference he knows best, the Pac10. Gary gives us his expert picks and analysis of the Pac10 tournament’s opening round.

First up we see Gary’s competitiveness shine through with his first pick, Gary gives us his pick for the Washington State and the Oregon Ducks. “Washington State is having a good year but Oregon is one of the teams that are going to be a surprise. If they can go to the championship, if they play well I think they can make it.” Gary picks the Oregon Ducks but he doesn’t let OSU’s state rivals off easy ““I don’t want to pick Oregon…

Ducks wow ‘Quack quack’ you ain’t nothing but I gotta pick you in this matchup.”

Next Gary talks UCLA Bruins and the Arizona Wildcats, first UCLA “…UCLA disappointing season this year, going to the final four almost every year for the last four years in a row…lost all his blue chippers, didn’t have a great year almost like the University of North Carolina.” Then Arizona, “Arizona loses Lute Wilson, they are struggling, a program that was number one all the time but now they’re struggling.”

Gary likes Arizona state over Stanford, “ASU is the second best team in the Pac10…they’ll blow by Stanford with ease.”

We can trust Gary’s first picks as unbiased expert analysis but something tells me he’s not being completely impartial when he talks about his Oregon State Beavers, “They had to put us up against a tough team, (Washington) ranked number 2 behind Cal…but I’m gonna go with a spoiler…Coach Robinson, I think you gonna win it.” This might be the least surprising of Gary’s picks, “I gotta pick my team Oregon State

That’s it for another installment of Payton’s corner.
