And so it begins
Dear Members, We are on the cusp of yet another "maddening" time of the year. It's when men are separated from boys, performers from chokers, legends from.....okay, that's enough of the typical comments.
You can throw out all of the analysis and trends surrounding this big tournament. It comes down to momentum, luck, guts and clutch play. That's it. Those four elements are all needed in order for any team to go on an extended run and reach the Final Four in Indianapolis.
So what do we know? Well, we know that Gonzaga is no longer an underdog and has a lot of pressure on them to advance. However, based on their recent home performances, we could say that nothing is a given. In fact, many believe Xavier will at least keep it close in round one.
On the other hand, take a team such as UConn. They're been widely regarded as the deepest and most talented team in the nation. Yet, they didn't even get the number one overall seed. That honor went to Coach K and Duke. UConn is about as automatic a team can be when penciling in your Final Four. Everything else is up for grabs.
In terms of upsets, I like LSU to go big. They have a couple of players that Duke will not be able to cover well enough should they meet. As well, you have to look at perhaps lower seeded teams such as UAB and Wisconsin-Milwaukee to fare well. We heard on BetUSradio.com from Coach Banks,as he said he likes Kent St. to go on a run like they did a few years ago. You just never know. All we know for sure is that either Hampton or Monmouth will have their ass-tro handed to them by Villanova. It won't be pretty. But neither will watching all of the Villanova faces, when their team doesn't make the Final Four (hello Boston College).
So revel in the pure joy and emotion of an underdog win (and underdog bet of course), curse out the selection committee for Florida St., Michigan and Cincinnati all being left out, and cheer on the feel good stories as they come up. This is March Madness and if you're not swept up in its euphoric capabilities, then you're not a hardcore sports fan.
Enjoy the action everyone. Sincerely, Matthew Ross Content Manager
