March Madness Betting Preview

The time of the year every march madness bracket in your office pool or betting on every single contest from the play-in game to the title game nothing beats the Madness.

Before last week’s conference tournaments most people, experts included, had pegged North Carolina, Connecticut, or Pittsburgh as the No. 1 overall seed in the Big Dance. After the Tar Heels, Huskies, and Panthers all bombed out in their conference tourneys the Louisville Cardinals swooped in and stole the No. 1 overall seed. The Cardinals didn’t just take advantage of the other teams’ failures; they deserved the top seed after winning both the Big East title during the season and the Big East tournament. Despite their disappointing performances in the conference tourneys UNC, UConn, and Pitt all had a good enough resume to receive the remaining three No. 1 seeds. The Cards may be the top seed, but according to the college basketball odds the Tar Heels are the favorites at +400. Louisville and Pitt follow at +500, and the Huskies check in at +700.

USC (+10,000), who is red hot after winning the Pac-10 tourney, could be a dangerous No. 10 seed.

Mississippi State (+20,000), who tore through the SEC tourney.

In the East region, Oklahoma State (+10,000) is a foe no one wants to face after their impressive run in the Big 12 tourney.

The final region, the South region, is topped by No. 1 seed North Carolina. The Tar Heels have been a No. 1 seed in three of the last four tournaments, but only won the national title in 2005. No. 2 in the South, Western Kentucky (+30,000), because the Hilltoppers made it to the Elite 8 last year when they were also a No. 12 seed.
