Payton's Corner: Basketball, Kentucky and the SEC

Bookmark and Share by Tommy Long

The always on-point Gary Payton gives us the latest installment of the Payton’s Corner. Gary is in the spot he knows best, he’s on the basketball court. Gary is shooting free throws, his free throws weren’t hitting the mark but when Gary Payton flips the script from NBA to give us his college basketball picks for the SEC Championship, we know there will be nothing but net.

In the SEC tournament, the East’s second seed Vanderbilt has first round bye but Gary says the Commodores aren’t strong enough to compete with Kentucky and their young point guard John Wall. “I don’t think Vanderbilt can do it, they’re not strong enough to deal wall and all those guys on Kentucky” We all know Gary knows a little something about the point guard position.

A Vanderbilt-Kentucky matchup isn’t something the Wildcat fans have to worry about if Gary’s other prediction for the SEC tournament comes to fruition.

Gary says there is one team that Kentucky needs to watch out for and it’s the team that has beaten the Wildcats already this season, the Tennessee Volunteers. Tennessee has to get by LSU first but Gary Payton thinks Tennessee is the right team to upset the Kentucky Wildcats in SEC Tournament.

“…the team I think can do it, is that team Tennessee, Tennessee has beat Kentucky already this years and I think they can do it again (In the SEC Tournament)I think they can do it…Kentucky watch out, I’m taking Tennessee over you”

As always Gary knows his basketball, if he likes Tennessee to move past LSU and then upset the Kentucky Wildcats who are we to argue.
