Why is there so much dependence on a school's strength of schedule and non-conference games when these schedules are set up and scheduled months in advance?
In essence, a school can ensure its own non-inclusion in post season participation by their own choosing due to the schedule the school adopts for the upcoming season. How can coaches encourage teams to "go for the brass ring," knowing that even a good season will not pay dividends down the road? It seems to me they're spinning their wheels for naught. Many coaches say ,"We dont schedule them ,we just play them." Should'nt Athletic Directors give the programs a fighting chance at season's end for post season play, even if it is an at-large bid?
