Midwest Regional Semifinals @ Ford Field, Detroit, MI
(10) K-State out behind the woodshed and administering beatings. Unlike their previous two games, Davidson got off to a fast start. Stephen Curry and Jason Richards picked right back up scorching the nets and Davidson held a solid 17-10 lead with 8-miutes elapsed in the first half. They continued to build upon that lead when Curry nailed back-to-back threes to increase the lead to 10 with 8 minutes to go in the half forcing the Badgers to take a timeout to regroup. Bo Ryan slammed his clipboard on the ground in front of his players and then proceeded to go on a rant that CBS quickly turned away from since it was loaded with expletives. Bo’s magic worked as the Badgers got back to playing their style of ball, and cut into the Wildcats lead to only find themselves down three at the break (31-28). The Badgers defense was relentless to start the second half forcing five turnovers in Davidson’s first eight possessions, and the three-point deficit quickly turned into a 5-point lead for Wiscy. Ford Field was deafening at this point, and Davidson seemingly fell apart. The play of the game occurred when Badger forward Brian Butch rejected Curry’s shot in the paint, and outlet the pass to a streaking Trevon Hughes who threw it down with two hands to allow the Badgers to attain its first double-digit lead of the game. Curry and Richards tried their hardest to convert from beyond the arc, but it just wasn’t meant to be this time around and the Badgers went on to secure the 10-point road win and cover.

(12) UNLV. The fact that Kansas breezed against both opponents had Jayhawk fans nervous about this match-up, and their clairvoyance rang true as the Wildcats gave them all they could handle in this one. The game opened up with each club running its offense and converting from the field. The game was tied at 12 apiece at the first media timeout, and both head coaches seemingly looked pleased with what they saw. The #1 seed then took a stranglehold on the game forcing the Wildcats to turn it over with their defense, and making them pay for it on the other end with fast break points. KU held a 27-19 lead at the 7-minute mark, but that’s when Scottie Reynolds introduced himself to the Ford Field crowd. He scored the Wildcats next 10 points to cut the lead to three, and then allowed Villanova to grab its first lead of the game right before the half when he nailed a long range three from the right wing. Nova held a 1-point lead at the half, 34-33. Jayhawk nation was on edge to start the second half, and the last thing it wanted to see was Scottie Reynolds continue to bury three pointers in the second half. That however is exactly what happened, and Villanova built as much as a 9-point lead before Head Coach Bill Self was forced to call a timeout with the game slipping away. KU reverted back to what got them here by playing tenacious “D” and tactful “O”. This type of play really frustrated the ‘Cats, and KU was able to rattle off 6-straight points to cut the deficit to three at the 8-minute mark. Scottie Reynolds then went cold, but teammate Corey Stokes picked up the slack and scored the ‘Cats next six points. With 2-minutes left in the game, the Jayhawks looked to its senior for a big shot and he delivered. Senior guard Brandon Rush nailed a desperation three as the shot clock expired to tie the game up at 60. The Jayhawks defense forced a bad shot from Nova’s Dante Cunningham that was quickly outletted to Sherron Collins who lead a 3-on-2 break and found Rush wide open from beyond the arc. Brandon did it again, and the Jayhawks held a 3-point lead with 48 seconds left. Instead of calling timeout, Nova raced up the court and caught KU off-guard. This allowed Reynolds to lay in a quick deuce, and it was only a 1-point game with 43 ticks left. HC Self didn’t take a timeout either, and because of it, the Jayhawks offensive possession was poor to say the least. They did manage to get it in to Darrell Arthur in the paint, but Dwayne Anderson stripped him of the ball; Nova then called timeout with 12 seconds remaining in the game. Everyone knew exactly what was coming, and it looked to be that way when the ball was inbounded to Scottie Reynolds and he proceeded to dribble the ball at the top of the key. He then streaked to the hoop for what seemed to be a lay-up attempt, but he dished it over to a wide-open Cunningham who took the 10-foot shot. It clanked off the back of the rim and the ball was them knocked into the air a couple of times before it fell into the waitful hands of Reynolds with two seconds left. His desperation loft at the rim hit glass, and then rim, but spun out as the buzzer erupted. Jayhawk nation let out a communal sigh of relief as this #1 seed staved off a pesky Villanova club to advance to the Elite 8 for the second year in a row.
