Stanford won the first meeting between these two, holding Washington to just 51 points in a 14-point romp on January 31. Brook Lopez, who will be a lottery pick in the NBA Draft if and when he decides to come out, put the clamps on Washington's major offensive weapon, Jon Brockman, holding him to 12 points while scoring 31 points of his own. That's essentially the story in this matchup - Stanford can neutralize what Washington does best, because they do it better.
We're not altogether crazy about the Cardinal's perimeter players, but they will have the freedom to get out and play defense, especially since Washington not especially big on shooting threes (only 5.8 made per game). And the Huskies are at a big disadvantage when it comes to converting free throws. They've shot just 58.9% from the line this season. And their uneven efforts from the field are far from impressive, like 35% against Arizona State last time out.
This is going to be a game that is dominated by the Lopez brothers on the inside, creating a defensive puzzle that will be difficult, if not impossible, for Washington to solve.
