When you’ve got a big ‘ol nose that can rival Disney’s legendary Pinocchio himself, (like mine) then smelling an upset from a mile away, is generally a fairly easy task more often than not.
Thanks to my big nose – and even better college basketball handicapping skills – avid BetUS March Madness gamblers will get the scoop on the NCAA Tournament best bets for a first round upset in this year’s
Two, ‘First Four’ matchups take place on Tuesday evening while two other contests will get underway on Wednesday.
UTSA vs. Alabama State 6:30 PM ET
Texas-San Antonio is favored in their Wednesday night opener by four points – and I’m not expecting an upset in this first round matchup as I expect the UTSA Roadrunners to win, cover the spread and advance.
USC vs. VCU 9:00 PM ET
The USC Trojans are favored over the Virginia Commonwealth Rams by 4.5 Points, but I smell an upset in this contest, if you can call it that. VCU went 23-11 SU this season while USC was just five games over .500 at 19-14 SU.
While the Rams posted a uninspiring 13-20 ATS mark this season, I still believe they are one of the best bets on the board for a first round upset on Wednesday, particularly seeing as how they went 5-2 SU in seven neutral site games compared to USC’s 2-2 SU mark in four neutral site ballgames.
If you consider Thursday’s official second round the ‘real’ first round, then these two matchups look like ‘upset specials’.
Purdue vs. St. Peter’s
The Boilermakers have dropped three in a row against the college basketball betting odds while St. Peter’s looks like one of the best bets for March Madness gamblers, having cashed in for collegiate roundball bettors in four consecutive games and eight of its L/9 games overall.
Kansas vs. Boston University
Laugh all you want, but Kansas is just 1-4-1 against the college basketball odds over its L/6 games and could be in trouble against the spread against the Boston University Terriers.
Boston University has gone 6-1 ATS in its last seven games as a neutral site underdog and a blistering 11-2 against the college basketball betting odds in its L/11 neutral site games overall and could be one of the top NCAA Tournament best bets for a first round upset!
