Jayhawks Sit atop the Big 12 Power Poll
by Mike Rose

Rock Chalk Jayhawk sits atop the at BetUS for the fifth straight week, and the following is how the Big 12 stacks up after last week’s action:
1: Kansas Jayhawks (15-5-1 ATS, 22-5 SU) (10-1-1 ATS, 11-1 SU in Big XII) (LW: 1) Iowa State became the second Big XII team this year to figure out how to not get covered by the Jayhawks, and with the way things have gone lately for those fading Rock Chalk, the push was welcome. Order was restored in the form of a 70-53 win over Nebraska. With Blake Griffin in question for the Sooners, Kansas could make a huge statement in Normal on Monday night.
This Week: Away @ Oklahoma
2: Texas A&M Aggies (12-7 ATS, 19-8 SU) (8-4 ATS, 5-7 SU in Big XII) (LW: 4) Could the Aggies be making a late surge towards March? A&M just hasn’t gone away this season, and will be hard to leave out of the dance if it can win 23-24 games. Last week’s 81-66 win over Texas looks all the more impressive now that the Longhorns just upended Oklahoma, but there is just no margin for error left. The Aggies have covered seven out of eight.
This Week: Away @ Nebraska, Home vs. Iowa State
3: Missouri Tigers (12-8 ATS, 23-4 SU) (8-4 ATS, 10-2 SU in Big XII) (LW: 3) Missouri kept pace with the Jayhawks and Sooners by beating Colorado 66-53 and narrowly covering the 12-point spread last week. A stumble against Kansas State is possible, as both Kansas and Oklahoma are looming on the schedule two weeks down the road. However, the Tigers have yet to lose a game at home this season.
This Week: Home vs. Kansas State
4: Oklahoma Sooners (12-9-1 ATS, 25-2 SU) (7-4-1 ATS, 11-1 SU in Big XII) (LW: 2) For a few days following Connecticut’s loss to Pittsburgh, Oklahoma was the de facto #1 team in the land. Texas put a stop to that though, as the Sooners lost to the Longhorns 73-68 in the basketball version of the Red River Shootout. With super-stud Blake Griffin’s status up in the air for Monday night, the once 25-1 Sooners could be facing a two-game losing skid at the worst time of year.
This Week: Home vs. Kansas, Away @ Texas Tech
5: Colorado Buffaloes (11-11 ATS, 9-17 SU) (8-4 ATS, 1-11 SU in Big XII) (LW: 5) The Buffaloes have now lost seven straight games, and haven’t shown much in the way of effort in doing so. The 94 combined points from two games this week marked the third and fourth times in this stretch that they have failed to reach 55 points in a game. They’re still 8-2 ATS in their L/10, and have been one of the hardest teams in the conference to bet against.
This Week: Home vs. Oklahoma State, Away @ Baylor
7: Kansas State Wildcats (8-9-2 ATS, 19-8 SU) (5-6-1 ATS, 7-5 SU in Big XII) (LW: 7) K-State kept in the thick of things for a spot on the dance floor in March by beating Iowa State and UNC Central last week. Twenty wins probably won’t be quite enough for the Wildcats, but if that elusive 20th win comes against Missouri, their resume will be much more impressive. A loss to the Tigers will make Saturday’s game with the Huskers an absolute must have victory.
This Week: Away @ Missouri, Home vs. Nebraska
7: Texas Longhorns (10-13 ATS, 18-8 SU) (4-8 ATS, 7-5 SU in Big XII) (LW: 8) After losing to A&M last week, things looked bleak for HC Rick Barnes and the Longhorns. However, no team had a bigger Saturday than UT, as the 73-68 win over Oklahoma was desperately needed. Two more wins should send Texas dancing, and truth be told, both wins should come this week.
This Week: Home vs. Texas Tech, Away @ Oklahoma State
8: Nebraska Cornhuskers (7-10 ATS, 16-9 SU) (5-7 ATS, 6-6 SU in Big XII) (LW: 6) Nebraska’s bubble has a pin right next to it, and one more misstep will likely cause it to burst. At 16-9, the Huskers probably need to take at least three of their L/4 in the regular season and avoid a huge disaster in the conference tourney. Tuesday’s game with Texas A&M is likely an elimination game. If they pass that test, Saturday’s game in Manhattan might also be.
This Week: Home vs. Texas A&M, Away @ Kansas State
And the rest…
9: Iowa State Cyclones (8-11-3 ATS, 13-14 SU) (3-6-3 ATS, 2-10 SU in Big XII) (LW: 10)
10: Oklahoma State Cowboys (8-11-1 ATS, 17-9 SU) (5-7 ATS, 6-6 SU in Big XII) (LW: 12)
11: Baylor Bears (6-12 ATS, 16-10 SU) (2-10 ATS, 4-8 SU in Big XII) (LW: 9)
12: Texas Tech Red Raiders (6-13-1 ATS, 12-15 SU) (4-8 ATS, 2-10 SU in Big XII) (LW: 11)
