MACC Power Poll - Purple Eagles and Peacocks still on top

Bookmark and Share by Mike Rose

The Purple Eagles trouncing of MAAC Power Poll this week, and the following breaks down the rest of the conference’s efforts from last week.

1: Niagara Purple Eagles (18-9 ATS, 22-7 SU) (9-7 ATS, 12-4 SU in MAAC) (LW: 1) The Purple Eagles may rue their 90-87 loss in Rider come the MAAC Tournament, but certainly made a case for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament by blowing out Illinois State in Bracket Buster. There are only two games left in this regular season, but the big one will clearly be against Siena. A win over the Saints and a deep run into the MAAC Tourney may be just enough to allow them to put on their dancing shoes.

This Week: Home vs. Siena, Home vs. Marist

2: St. Peter’s Peacocks (13-5-1 ATS, 9-18 SU) (11-3-1 ATS, 6-10 SU in MAAC) (LW: 2) The Peacocks rolled to their fourth straight cover and their eighth in their L/10 games by sticking within the number against Youngstown State on Saturday. If there’s a team that can really throw a wrench into the MAAC Tournament, it’s the red hot Peacocks, who will defend a 5-1-1 ATS mark at home this week.

This Week: Home vs. Iona, Home vs. Manhattan

3: Manhattan Jaspers (11-10 ATS, 16-11 SU) (9-6 ATS, 9-7 SU in MAAC) (LW: 3) The Jaspers were impressive last week, holding William & Mary to just 39 points in a 15 point victory as short underdogs. After a disastrous start to the season for its sports betting fanatics, Manhattan has covered the spread in five of its L/6. It’ll have a shot to move as high the #3 seed in the MAAC Tournament this week as the regular season wraps up.

This Week: Away @ Fairfield, Away @ St. Peter’s

4: Canisius Golden Griffins (10-10-1 ATS, 9-18 SU) (6-9-1 ATS, 3-13 SU in MAAC) (LW: 7) The Griffs did their job in Bracket Buster by upsetting Bowling Green as ten-point dogs. With a pair of outright victories from its L/2 games, Canisius could prove to be a thorn in the side of the big boys in the MAAC come tourney time. It’ll get its shot at the top dog in the final tune-up before the conference tournament this week.

This Week: Home vs. Marist, Home vs. Siena

5: Rider Broncs (10-11 ATS, 16-11 SU) (9-7 ATS, 10-6 SU in MAAC) (LW: 4) The Broncs threw a wrench into Niagara’s hopes for an at-large bid by beating the Purple Eagles 90-87 mid-week. They knocked off UMBC in Bracket Buster, and will ride the momentum of a two-game winning streak into the final two games of the regular season. The critical #3 seed in the conference tourney will be up for grabs.

This Week: Away @ Loyola-Maryland, Home vs. Fairfield

6: Iona Gaels (10-12-1 ATS, 12-16 SU) (7-8-1 ATS, 7-9 SU in MAAC) (LW: 5) Iona was one of the few teams in the MAAC to perform poorly on Bracket Buster, as it was dropped by the Terriers 63-57 in a tightly contested game. With a pair of games against sub-par competition remaining, the Gaels could find themselves in an ideal position to get to .500 in the MAAC, but with one loss to its credit this year already to St. Peter’s, nothing is a given.

This Week: Away @ St. Peter’s, Home vs. Loyola-Maryland

7: Siena Saints (11-13-1 ATS, 22-6 SU) (5-9-1 ATS, 15-1 SU in MAAC) (LW: 6) My did Siena bettors get unlucky last week! After racing out to a huge halftime lead on Saturday against UNI, the Saints ended up failing to cover the touchdown-spread by the narrowest of margins. Still, the Bracket Buster victory may have been good enough to give them a bid to the dance regardless of whether they win the MAAC crown or not. The #1 seed in the MAAC Tourney is already Siena’s, but sweeping Niagara could be a huge resume boost for seeding in the NCAAs.

This Week: Away @ Niagara, Away @ Canisius

8: Loyola-Maryland Greyhounds (9-14 ATS, 11-18 SU) (7-8 ATS, 6-10 SU in MAAC) (LW: 8) The Puppies dropped to 1-5 ATS in their L/6 after getting drilled by Drexel in Bracket Buster on Saturday. At 0-6 SU in those six games, it sure looks like Loyola is going to be one of the easier teams to drop in the MAAC Tournament in two weeks. The good news is that the last team it successfully beat is coming to town for the home finale on Thursday.

This Week: Home vs. Rider, Away @ Iona

9: college basketball bettors. The Red Foxes took out Hartford 57-35 on Saturday, but now take to the road for the final two games of the regular season; they’ve yet to log a road win in MAAC play this year.

This Week: Away @ Canisius, Away @ Niagara

10: Fairfield Stags (8-15-1 ATS, 15-13 SU) (6-9-1 ATS, 8-8 SU in MAAC) (LW: 9) Fairfield fell victim to a rough draw in Bracket Buster, and lost to Hofstra 61-56 as a result. The Stags have lost four straight games, but two of those were against Niagara. They’ll be looking to avenge two early conference losses this week in the quest for one of the Top-4 seeds in next week’s tourney.

This Week: Home vs. Manhattan, Away @ Rider
