Missouri Valley Conference Power Poll - Bluejays and Braves Top List

Bookmark and Share by Mike Rose

The MVC CBB Betting season is coming to a close at BetUS, and the following details each team’s output throughout last week’s slate.

1: Creighton Bluejays (13-8 ATS, 21-6 SU) (9-6 ATS, 11-4 SU in MVC) (LW: 1) Teams from the big conferences on the bubble have become big fans of the Bluejays. It seems like Creighton has done enough to make the Dance even if it doesn’t win the Valley Tournament. The Jays have won six straight and covered five straight, and could put a stamp on their Tournament ticket with a Bracket Buster ‘W’ this weekend.

This Week: Home vs. Evansville, Home vs. George Mason

2: Bradley Braves (12-10 ATS, 14-12 SU) (10-5 ATS, 8-7 SU in MVC) (LW: 3) In a week of carnage for the best sports betting teams in the MVC, the Braves salvaged a split. Bradley has a rough Bracket Buster trip to Chicago, but will start the week off with a home date with the Bears. It is 4-1 ATS in its L/5 conference home games.

This Week: Home vs. Missouri State, Away @ Loyola-Chicago

3: Illinois State Redbirds (12-10 ATS, 21-5 SU) (7-8 ATS, 10-5 SU in MVC) (LW: 5) With an RPI of 58 and a strong chance at reaching at least 25 wins, the Redbirds could be in the discussion for an NCAA Tournament birth as well. They’ll kick off Bracket Buster against another team in search for an at-large spot in Niagara, but will first have to contend with the Shockers.

This Week: Home vs. Wichita State, Away @ Niagara

4: Evansville Purple Aces (10-10-1 ATS, 15-10 SU) (6-8-1 ATS, 7-8 SU in MVC) (LW: 2) Evansville had a chance to make a huge statement last week, but fell flat against both Bradley and Illinois State. Now the Aces have to travel to Creighton, in what amounts to be a brutal final six game stretch on the schedule.

This Week: Away @ Creighton, Away @ Miami (OH)

5: Northern Iowa Panthers (11-11 ATS, 18-8 SU) (10-5 ATS, 12-3 SU in MVC) (LW: 7) Northern Iowa really had a decent case to make the Field of 65 with an at-large birth, but really lost an excusable game at Wichita State last week. Perhaps 23 wins will be enough, especially if one of those 23 comes at Siena this week in Bracket Buster. It sure looks like the Panthers are going to have to win the Valley to go dancing, or else head to the NIT.

This Week: Home vs. Drake, Away @ Siena

6: Wichita State Shockers (10-10 ATS, 13-13 SU) (6-9 ATS, 7-8 SU in MVC) (LW: 8) The Shockers did their part to throw a wrench into the MVC standings by knocking off Northern Iowa at home as short dogs last week. Don’t count out this frisky squad, which has won seven of its L/9. WSU is just 3-5 ATS on the road this season, and has to travel to one of the most difficult locations in the conference this week.

This Week: Away @ Illinois State, Home vs. Cleveland State

7: Southern Illinois Salukis (12-13 ATS, 11-15 SU) (8-7 ATS, 6-9 SU in MVC) (LW: 4) The Salukis just closed out a horrifying scheduling spot, playing Creighton, Northern Iowa, and Illinois State in a span of 10 days. They lost all three games both SU and ATS, and will finally get a reprieve when Indiana State comes to town.

This Week: Home vs. Indiana State, Away @ Illinois-Chicago

8: Drake Bulldogs (10-12 ATS, 15-11 SU) (6-9 ATS, 7-8 SU in MVC) (LW: 6) Yikes, Drake! For a squad that won the MVC crown last year, a loss to the Sycamores is just unacceptable. With ATS and SU losses in five out of six games, it’s time to look forward to the 2009-10 season. The Governors should provide a nice test in this weekend’s Bracket Buster showdown.

This Week: Away @ Northern Iowa, Home vs. Austin Peay

9: Indiana State Sycamores (11-13 ATS, 7-19 SU) (8-7 ATS, 5-10 SU in MVC) (LW: 9) That’s five out of six covers for an Indiana State team that was totally left for dead a month ago. Outright victories over both Missouri State and Drake were quite surprising, and the Sycamores have now won three straight games as underdogs. Toledo probably won’t fall so easily this weekend.

This Week: Away @ Southern Illinois, Home vs. Toledo

10: Missouri State Bears (7-16-1 ATS, 10-16 SU) (4-10-1 ATS, 3-12 SU in MVC) (LW: 10) The Bears have still yet to win a road game in conference play this season, but did pick up their first road cover of the conference slate with a 62-61 loss in Wichita last week. Don’t expect the Braves to become the first scalp for SMS this season, but Tennessee-Martin may be a more reasonable test.

This Week: Away @ Bradley, Away @ Tennessee-Martin
