Money Makers in the Pac 10 - Huskies and Sun Devils are Tops

Bookmark and Share by Mike Rose

The Huskies remained the toast of the BetUS Sportsbook last week.

1: NCAA tournament will likely be on the line this week when the Sun Devils come to town.

This Week: Home vs. Arizona State, Home vs. Arizona

2: Arizona State Sun Devils (14-8 ATS, 21-5 SU) (9-5 ATS, 10-4 SU in Pac-10) (LW: 2) ASU may not have covered against Arizona, but running its winning streak to five games should be good enough for a good seed by Selection Sunday. Their final two road games are on deck this week, and with wins at Arizona, UCLA, and Stanford already under their belts, the Devils should be beaming with confidence.

This Week: Away @ Washington, Away @ Washington State

3: California Golden Bears (15-9 ATS, 20-7 SU) (8-6 ATS, 9-5 SU in Pac-10) (LW: 4) When the NCAA Selection Committee reviews Cal’s body of work, it won’t find too many glaring holes. Being swept by a lousy Oregon State team is going to make it difficult to put the Golden Bears in the field of 65 without at least one more signature victory. A slumping UCLA squad may be just what the doctor ordered to close out the week.

This Week: Home vs. USC, Home vs. UCLA

4: Arizona Wildcats (16-10 ATS, 18-9 SU) (10-5 ATS, 8-7 SU in Pac-10) (LW: 5) Arizona is another very tough read for the Selection Committee. Twenty wins and key victories over Gonzaga, Washington, and UCLA may be enough for the Wildcats, but they won’t want to leave anything to chance. Getting swept in the northwest this week would be inexcusable after losing a nail-biter to the Sun Devils last week.

This Week: Away @ Washington State, Away @ Washington

5: Stanford Cardinal (14-9 ATS, 14-10 SU) (7-7 ATS, 4-10 SU in Pac-10) (LW: 3) Pack your bags, Stanford. Losses to both Oregon State and Oregon last week were simply fatal to the postseason hopes of the Cardinal. There’s a very real prospect that they won’t even get an NIT birth now, barring a huge run in the Pac-10 Tournament in a few weeks. Stanford is just 2-7 SU in its L/9 (2-6 ATS).

This Week: Home vs. UCLA, Home vs. USC

6: Oregon State Beavers (11-10 ATS, 13-13 SU) (8-7 ATS, 7-8 SU in Pac-10) (LW: 7) Last week, the sports betting power poll warned about the Beavers putting Cal and Stanford on upset alert, and my were the Cardinals and Golden Bears ever upset! The Beavers used a stifling defense to shut down both teams, and have now won three straight and seven out of ten after a miserable 2007-08 season. This week could be the first time in almost three seasons that OSU was favored in a conference road game.

This Week: Away @ Oregon

7: UCLA Bruins (12-13-1 ATS, 20-7 SU) (6-7-1 ATS, 9-5 SU in Pac-10) (LW: 6) Is it realistic to think the Bruins could be a bubble team by this time next week? There’s still only one win against a Top-25 team on UCLA’s resume, and with a dipping RPI and losses in three of its L/4, things are starting to get hairy for one of the preseason favorites just to get into the field of 65. There are two very real chances at defeat this week in its final two roadies of the season.

This Week: Away @ Stanford, Away @ California

8: USC Trojans (11-13 ATS, 16-10 SU) (6-8 ATS, 7-7 SU in Pac-10) (LW: 8) USC did just enough last week to hang around in the minds of the Selection Committee by beating Washington State 61-51, but really needed to beat the Huskies to take a step back towards the inside of the bubble. The four remaining games on the schedule are all winnable, and in all likelihood, the Trojans will need at least three wins to have a legitimate gripe going into the Pac-10 tourney.

This Week: Away @ California, Away @ Stanford

9: Washington State Cougars (8-16 ATS, 14-13 SU) (5-10 ATS, 6-9 SU in Pac-10) (LW: 9) The Cougars came out of nowhere last week and sprung a huge upset of the slumping Bruins at Pauley Pavilion. With wins over the Bruins and Sun Devils, a couple more wins may be good enough to send the #1 defense in the land to the NIT, which would be a triumph after playing through a brutal Pac-10 schedule this year.

This Week: Home vs. Arizona, Home vs. Arizona State

10: Oregon Ducks (8-18 ATS, 7-20 SU) (4-11 ATS, 1-14 SU in Pac-10) (LW: 10) For the first time in 2009, the Ducks proved to be victorious after beating Stanford 68-60 last Saturday. The win stopped a brutal 14-game losing streak that began when conference play started. There’s a reasonable chance for a second straight win against Oregon State, but the Beavers are playing tremendous basketball right now.

This Week: Home vs. Oregon State
