March Madness is here! I've filled out my bracket and I hope it can lead to riches. In my estimation, Villanova, Louisville, Kentucky, and Arizona are going to make it to Phoenix for the Final Four. Check out why below!
East Region - #1 Villanova
I think the best player in the country is Josh Hart. Hart allows the game to come to him. He never presses unless he must. The hot pick in the East Region is Duke. I don't think Duke caught a breack in the ACC Tournament game versus North Carolina when the Joel Berry III was signaled for his fourth foul on a very bad call. Duke is good. Villanova is better.
Midwest Region - #2 Louisville
Louisville goes into the NCAA Tournament having lost 3 of their last 5 games. That doesn't bother me. The NCAA Tourney is when the big-time coaches start coaching big time. Say what you want about Rick Pitino, but the man can coach college basketball. I'm not overly impressed with Kansas, Oregon is missing a key player, and Michigan played too good in the Big Ten Tournament for it to carry over to the NCAA Tournament. I also think Iowa State's luck runs out.
Louisville wins the Midwest.
South Region - #2 Kentucky
The bottom half of the South Region is ridiculous.
Wichita State is the #10 seed and the Shockers have won 15 games in
a row. UCLA was in line for a possible #1 seed until losing to
Arizona in the Pac-12 Championship. Cincinnati was the second-best
team in the AAC this season.
Then, there's Kentucky. I love how John Calipari's team goes into the NCAA Tournament. The super-frosh in Lexington discovered how to play defense. That should make all the difference when they take on North Carolina in the Elite Eight.
West Region - #2 Arizona
Let me put it this way, Arizona should go to the Final Four. I know Gonzaga is the #1 seed, but Zags' coach Mark Few has never taken the Bulldogs that far despite having plenty of chances. I don't even think this is Few's best team. Arizona looked great in the Pac 12 Tournament. They win the West.
Final Four Semifinals - #2 Louisville vs #2 Kentucky / #1 Villanova vs #2 Arizona
Kentucky should be favored. The Wildcats have more scorers. They're playing great defense. Calipari knows how to coach in the Final Four. Louisville is going to be tough, but Kentucky should pull away in the second half.
Nova vs Zona is going to be an excellent game. Villanova's Josh Hart refuses to allow the East Coast Wildcats to lose a game. But, the West Coast Wildcats from Zona are loaded with talented players. They're also a hungry bunch. I think that Arizona wins because of freshman center Lauri Markkanen. Markkanen has great moves on the post and shoots 41% from three. Nobody on Villanova's squad can match up with Markkanen.
Final Four Championship - # 2 Arizona vs #2 Kentucky
In the 1996 Final Four Championship, Arizona's Miles Simon played an amazing game to beat Kentucky almost single-handedly. This year's Arizona team has a Simon-like player in Alonzo Trier. Only, Trier isn't alone. There's also the best freshman big man in the country in Lauri Markkanen playing with Trier.
Markkanen and Trier are the main reasons I like Arizona to win the Final Four, but there other reasons to like Zona. The West Coast Wildcats have won their last four games straight up and against the spread. They have multiple players that can drive to the basket or hit the three. They also play fantastic defense.
I like Kentucky. I think Kentucky is the second-best team in the nation. But, the Arizona Wildcats are the best team in the nation. Zona proves it by winning the Final Four.
