NCAA Betting Odds:
Here are some NCAA Betting Trends which may impact this game:
BYU: 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games
BYU: Total has gone OVER in 4 of their last 5 games
Utah: 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games
Utah: Total has gone UNDER in 4 of their last 5 games
For the favorites, BYU Cougars comes into this game off a very tough loss Saturday at home against the Mountain West leading New Mexico Lobos. They’ll look to rebound against a Utah team that’s coming on strong, but it might be too little, too late for the Utes.
The Cougars are one of college basketball’s highest scoring teams (82 points a game, 3rd nationally), thanks to one of the most underrated guards in the country. That’d be Jimmer Fredette. Fredette, a senior, doesn’t get nearly the credit he deserves, as on the season he averages over 21 points a game, while also doubling as one of the Mountain West’s top assist men at 4.9 a contest as well. Jackson Emery and Tyler Haws play off the ball, but provide veteran scoring punch, as they combine for 23 points a game.
As for Utah, it’s been a tough year, but they have managed to win three of their last four games. Like BYU, they rely on a trio of guards to get the bulk of their points: Carlton Brown, Marshall Henderson and Luke Drca. The three combine for 35 points per game, with Drca leading the team in assists at over three a game. In Utah’s most recent win over Wyoming, Drca had one of his best days, scoring 17 points.
The biggest key in this game, will be whether or not the Utah Utes can keep up with the high-flying BYU Cougars. On the season, this team averages just 67 points a game, which ranks them just 219th in college basketball, and a full 15 points below what the Cougars average. If they are to get a win, they’ll need to have one of their best performances of the season.
They say that defense wins championships, but on Wednesday night it’s going to be all about the offenses. And BYU simply has more of it, a lot more. That is the biggest reason why they are 26-4 at this point in the season, and the biggest reason they’re going to win Wednesday.
Don’t try to outsmart yourself in this one, and take the veteran, established BYU Cougars. They are vying for a good seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament, and won’t let a bad performance on Wednesday night hinder that.
They should be your play in the betting odds.
Aaron’s Pick: BYU ATS
