College Basketball Betting: Georgetown vs Marquette
by Charles Jay

Georgetown has looked very impressive in the Big East tournament, first taking South Florida and playing with the Bulls, holding them to 29% shooting and beating up star guard Dominique Jones a little. Then, on Thursday night, they beat the #3-ranked Syracuse Orange 91-85. Syracuse had all kinds of problems dealing with Chris Wright, who tallied 27 points for Georgetown, and Austin Freeman had 18 points as well. Freeman has made a strong comeback after being diagnosed with diabetes. But maybe it was been a psychological edge to finally know what was causing the 6'3", 225-pound guard's slumber.

Frankly, it didn't hurt Georgetown that Syracuise center Arinze Onuaku suffered a knee injury and had to leave the game. That opened the door for Greg Monroe, who had 15 points and ten rebounds, along with seven assists. Monroe has been pretty effective down the stretch, with 56% shooting and 18 points a game in his last four. The Hoyas could be in for a #3 seed in the NCAA's, based on what they have accomplished thus far in the Big East tournament.
Here are some of the head-to-head college basketball betting trends for this game:
- MARQ has won and covered the last three meetings
- MARQ has covered five of the last seven meetings
- Four of the last five meetings have gone OVER the total
These teams met only once during the regular season, which is not all that unusual, since the Big East is such a big league (16 teams). In that game, Marquette made something of a breakthrough, because it had been losing all the close games and this time won one for a change, using a pair of clutch free throws by Jimmy Butler to pull out a 62-59 win at the Bradley Center. They had the benefit of making 12 three-pointers, but shot just 39% overall. Monroe had just nine points, and Lazar Hayward, who often plays in the pivot for Marquette despite being 6'5", had 11 rebounds but was 4-of-16 from the field.
Previous to that game, Marquette had lost to West Virginia and Villanova, both in the top ten at the time, by a total of three points.
At this point, when it comes to suspense, you're looking at a team of grizzled veterans. Marquette wouldn't be Marquette unless it was playing in close games. The Golden Eagles have beaten St. John's by four points and tenth-ranked Villanova by four at the Garden thus far, and that means that six of their last seven games have been decided by four points or less. With ten losses on the season, it might be difficult for the Eagles to make a case for a high seed in the NCAA's, but with eleven wins in the last 13 games isn't hurting them. In those ten losses, the biggest margin was nine points, against Wisconsin. And get this - Marquette is a sizzling 8-1 ATS getting points. We know which way we're going.
