College Hoops Betting: San Diego State vs New Mexico
by Tommy Long

The Mountain West Conference tournament continues Friday night at the Thomas & Mach Center in Las Vegas Nevada with semi-final action between the San Diego State Aztecs and the number 8 ranked New Mexico Lobos.
The college basketball odds makers have the Lobos listed as -1½ point favorites and the game total is 136½ points.

Both teams had to work hard in their quarterfinal matchups, the Aztecs escaped with a win over a physical Colorado State team, 72-71. The Lobos held off a sharp shooting Air Force team, the Falcons shot 54% against New Mexico; their sharp shooting prevented the Lobos from putting the game out of reach much earlier.
The key for both teams will be who has gotten the most rest in between games, the Lobos first team All-MWC guard Dairese Gary is feeling the after effects of some bumps he took during the Air Force game and the Aztecs own star guard Chase Tapley played most the of CSU game with a swollen hand. The trouble with tournament basketball is these kids won’t get a chance to heal themselves during the manic schedule.
Looking at the college basketball betting trends for both teams we see the NM Lobos are 2-7 in their past nine neutral site games while things aren’t any better for the SDST Aztecs who are 3-12 in their past 15 neutral site games.
If you are betting totals, the Lobos have gone over the total in their past four games and the Aztecs are 5-1-1 in their past seven versus a winning team. Head to Head, the Lobos and Aztecs have gone over the total 5-1-1 in their past seven meetings.
Head to Head, San Diego State holds a 7-3 straight up advantage but against the NCAAB spread, they have split those games with each winning five ATS.
This will be the third game between the two teams this season with each team owning a win on their home court. Therefore, it’s fitting that the tiebreaker is on a neutral court but it should be noted that San Diego State covered the spread in both games.
This game is going to come down to whether the Aztecs can effectively shutdown the Lobos Dairese Gary and the MWC player of the year Darington Hobson; even though Gary is banged up, I don’t see the Aztecs being effective enough after their tough win over Colorado State.
