Conference USA Men’s Championship Betting – Houston vs. Memphis

Bookmark and Share by Tim Furious

It’s been a whole new season for Memphis, which lost a ton of recruits and their former head coach, Jon Calipari to Kentucky. That didn’t stop them from being one of the best teams in their sordid conference, but this isn’t the same Memphis that was a bracket buster for so many in March Madness predictions.

What will make them a contender this year is that they have their guard of choice running the team. The Tigers are famous for most notably producing Tyreke Evans and Derrick Rose, both who are rising to prominence as “big” guards in the NBA. Elliot Williams, who transferred from Duke this year has gone from being a freshman nobody on the Blue Devils to a stud for the Tigers. He’s averaging 18.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists while logging major minutes. With a 6-foot-5 frame, he certainly emulates the prototypical Calipari guard.

The Memphis Tigers are 7-1 SU and 4-3 ATS in their past 7 games but what’s hanging over this game is a glaring 75-92 loss to the Houston Cougars and the oddsmakers just two weeks ago. In that game, Williams was reduced to one of his worst performances of the year, amounting just 6 points.

Thursday, March 11th --- BOK Center --- 1:00pm EST
: Memphis -6.5 (151.5)

That game, however, has to be considered lucky for Houston which simply caught Memphis in a mild tailspin. The Tigers have dominated this matchup, going 9-1 SU and they certainly had no troubles beating up on Houston in January when they won 92-77.

And the Cougars aren’t trustworthy on the college basketball betting spread to begin with. At just 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against the Tigers, their win in February was an anomaly.

Memphis has the nuts and the grit to bully Houston tonight and avenge their loss in February tonight. Their 13-3 SU record in conference play is second only to UTEP, which has gone 15-1 SU. This division belongs to just two teams, and that’s going to give Houston all sorts of problems tonight.
