Free NCAA Basketball Picks – Maryland vs. Duke -6 (138.5)

Bookmark and Share by Ringo Dalewood

Duke has rallied since, winning their past four games.

The Terrapins narrowly escaped unranked UNC 89-87 on Sunday, thanks to guard D.J Strawberry’s career-high 27 points. Strawberry’s inspired play earned him ACC player of the week honors, and his excellent basketball IQ has helped Maryland maintain a 79.9 point per game average. The Terrible Turtles are clawing for respect in the AP rankings, and a season sweep over Duke would catapult them up the standings.

Duke has fought hard since their four-game losing streak ended. And they have been winning with defense. Against St. John’s, the Blue Devils held their opponents to 34.0 percent shooting in a 67-50 route. Leading the charge, as always, is sophomore big man Josh McRoberts, averaging 12.8 points and 7.7 rebounds.

Maryland was able to catch Duke while they were in a slump, but the Devils have been playing stronger as of late. The Cameron home court advantage cannot be undersold here and will help to fuel the emotional fire that has been lighting the Blue Devils’ recent fire.

Freshman John Scheyer is an x-factor in this game, and the rookie should be difficult for Maryland to match-up against. Look for Duke to come out inspired, seeking revenge over a conference opponent. Maryland has a strong offense, but Duke has the better defense and will play with emotion and fire in their own house.

Maryland – 68

Duke – 75
