Longhorns Face Sooners After Being Dropped From Top-25

After wobbling on the bubble for a while, a loss to Texas A&M finally put the Longhorns on the outside looking in. They’ll host their final home game tonight when against the reeling Oklahoma Sooners as they prepare for the Big 12 tournament. Sitting just sixth in their conference is not where Texas had planned on being. They can find some semblance of respect by winning this layup matchup against Oklahoma, but covering the spread has not been their forte this season.

The Longhorns opened the season by going 17-0 SU, but have since gone just 5-7 SU in their past 12 games. In their past 16 games, they’ve gone a brutal 3-13 ATS. At home they’re just 2-5 ATS in their recent efforts to defend home court. Simply put, Texas is not a team to be trusted.

Which is about all you can say about Oklahoma as well. Willie Warren, their best player, is out indefinitely with a severe ankle injury. He’s missed the past three games and is not expected to return anytime soon. His 16.3 points per game average is sorely missed in the meantime. Oklahoma is just 1-5 ATS and 0-6 SU in their past 6 games.

On the road the Sooners are an unmitigated disaster going 1-4 ATS and 0-5 SU. Without their only real scoring threat, they’re seeing a massively inflated spread against the Texas Longhorns. Earlier this season, the Sooners toppled Texas 80-71 and the Longhorns will need to show that the loss was a blip on their already tattered record.

Texas has not been trustworthy, but considering the absence of Warren and the frenzy the home crowd will be in as they cheer for their final home game of the betting season tilts this game in favor of the Longhorns. It goes without saying that the buyer should beware of Texas, but if you’re holding a gun to my head then I’ll side with the boys in burnt orange as they try to rally some momentum on their side with the Big 12 Tournament approaching.

Texas is 5-0 SU/ATS in their past 5 games against Oklahoma in their own house. Of all the betting trends in this game, that’s the most important one.
