Pac-10. After Thursday night, one team’s view of first place will still be clear, while the other will have quite a struggle on their hands to get there.

The Cardinal is coming off a 90-71 win over Stanford delivered a balanced offensive attack versus the Golden Bears, led by Lawrence Hill, who netted 24 points on an impressive 10-of-13 shooting. Three other Stanford players scored in double figures in the win, including Fred Washington with 21, Brook Lopez with 19 and Anthony Goods with 14. As a team, Stanford displayed one of their best shooting performances of the season, as they hit 54.2 percent of their shots from the field.

The Cougars are also coming off a victory, but it was much closer. Arizona State. The win wouldn’t have been that close if the Cougars hadn’t imploded in the second half. Washington State scored early in the opening seconds of the second half to take a 16-point lead. The Cougars never relinquished that lead, but they came pretty close after Arizona state went on 13-0 run. The Cougars’ second-half shooting numbers explain it all – 4-of-20 from the field and 1-of-6 from three-point range. Washington State was able to bear down and escape with the win, but they were unable to cover the 6.5-point spread.

Washington State and Stanford clashed already this season back in mid-January. Stanford came out on top 71-68 in overtime as a 1-point favorite in that game. Anthony Goods was the difference-maker for the Cardinal as he poured in a game-high 30 points, including the game-winning three-pointer with 3.3 seconds remaining in OT. Lawrence Hill added 15 points and nine rebounds for Stanford in the win and Brook Lopez chipped in with eight points and ten boards. Washington State saw Kyle Weaver deliver a record-setting performance in the loss. Weaver recorded a triple-double with 14 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists, while also setting another record with six steals. Ivory Clark and Derrick Low each had 16 points for Washington State.

The Cougars head into this game with an 8-3 conference record, while the Cardinal is 7-3 versus the rest of the Pac-10. The winner of this game has a chance to take sole possession of second place in the conference, and have a clear path to first place if UCLA stumbles somewhere along the way.
