NCAA basketball picks: Georgia Bulldogs vs. Vanderbilt Commodores

Bookmark and Share by Mike Rose

There are only a few days left for tournament NCAA basketball picks, and BetUS Sportsbook takes aim at the SEC quarterfinal tilt between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Georgia continued its strong play last night by beating Arkansas 77-64 to advance to the quarterfinals. A run through the SEC Tournament could be considered unpredictable, but the Dawgs have done this once before with a similar record when they won the SEC just two years ago.

The Commodores are continuing on a march to avoid being a #5 seed in the dance. It's going to take at least two wins for that to happen, and a third victory may bump them all the way up to a #3 seed.

College Basketball Odds:
Georgia Bulldogs +7.5
Vanderbilt Commodores -7.5
Game Total 141.5

Georgia got a fantastic game out of F Trey Thompkins on Thursday against Arkansas. He led the team in scoring (23), rebounding (14), and assists (6), and he shot a solid 8/17 from the floor in doing so.

F Travis Leslie played well also, scoring 21 points and bringing in six boards.

If there's scary news for Bulldogs backers, it's that the team only really rotated five players and sporadic substitutions. Thompkins, Leslie, Dustin Ware, and Ricky McPhee each saw at least 33 minutes of court time in the victory.

UGA doesn't have a prolific offense at 68.7 points per game, but the unit is efficient, shooting 45.8 percent from the floor; one of the higher marks in the SEC.

Vandy will have to bring a better effort in this one than it did against South Carolina in its final regular season game to have a shot of moving up in the NCAA basketball brackets. The 'Dores lost that day 77-73 at home on Senior Day as 10-point favorites in shocking fashion.

It was an iffy day for an offense that has worked like clockwork at times this year. The Commodores average a hefty 78.1 points per game, and they shoot 47.5 percent from the field and 36.0 percent from beyond the arc.

Leading scorers G Jermaine Beal, C AJ Ogilvy, and G Jeffrey Taylor combine to score 42.6 points per game and any of the three can score 20+ points in any given game.

College Basketball Insider Betting Tip: Georgia is 2-2 SU and 3-0-1 ATS in its L/4 college basketball affairs against the Commodores.

For whatever reason, UGA just seems to have Vanderbilt's number when it comes to betting picks. The Dawgs nearly sprung the upset in Nashville just a few weeks ago, but they lost in overtime 96-94. That came on the heels of a 72-58 win over the 'Dores in Athens as four-point pups.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it, but Georgia just thrives in this spot, and who are we not to make our picks on it again? We'll take the Commodores to win outright and advance in this tournament, but the Dawgs are gonna go down fighting.
