by Charles Jay

Oklahoma Sooners (6-3 SU, 3-4 ATS) at Utah Utes (5-4 SU, 3-4 ATS)
Saturday, December 12 - 4 PM ET
Here are some of the NCAA basketball sports betting trends as they relate to this matchup:
- OKLA has won four of its last five games SU
- OKLA has covered one of its last six road games
- OKLA has lost five of its last six road games SU
- UTAH has won 17 of its last 24 games SU
- UTAH has won 19 of its last 23 home games SU
Utah has really put on the defense lately, first holding Idaho State to 25% shooting in a 68-56 win, then stifling a go-go Michigan squad which shot just 34% in the Utes' 68-52 win back on Wednesday. One of the key guys for Utah's defensive effort is sophomore center David Foster, a 7'3" behemoth who has been getting more and more playing time. Foster had ten blocked shots against Weber State, then followed with three against Idaho State and five more against Michigan. Foster has also shot 64% from the field, and he is somebody to be reckoned with. Carlon Brown, a junior, and Marshall Henderson, a freshman, man the guard positions for Utah, and Henderson in particular is a threat from three-point range. At least he's a threat to throw it up from beyond the arc (6.6 attempts a game).

Oklahoma's big presence took off for the NBA Draft this past spring. Blake Griffin, the all-everything power forward, went first in the entire draft to the L.A. Clippers. Oklahoma has gotten offense from a couple of different sources. Willie Warren is averaging almost 19 points on 47% shooting, as the soph has taken it upon himself to shoulder most of the scoring load. That doesn't mean they don't have room for veterans. Tony Crocker went off like a monster in Oklahoma's last game, scoring 29 points in the first half to propel the Sooners to an 86-62 win over Centenary. Tiny Gallon, who had 16 points and 15 boards in that game, brings his 300 pounds to the table and has chalked up 10 rebounds a contest, fulfilling the potential that was predicted for him when he was at Oak Hill Academy.
After dropping consecutive games to Virginia Commonwealth, San Diego and Houston, Oklahoma has been on a hot streak, winning four straight, including victories over Arkansas and Arizona by a combined 37 points.
Will that hot streak stop on Saturday? It just might, if Oklahoma doesn't have a hot day from the three-point line (made 51 in the last three games). You've got to like the Utes' defensive effort against a Michigan team that, like Oklahoma, plays at an increased pace. Foster vs. Gallon is an interesting matchup, but the Utah center's swatting ability should have more effect. Oklahoma's only other true road game resulted in a loss at VCU. We'll look for Utah to gain revenge for last year's 70-52 defeat, taking Utah in the BetUS NCAA college basketball betting odds.
JAY'S PREDICTION: UTAH BY 5
