St. John Meets Marquette Following Upset Of Connecticut
by Tim Furious

When you hear about the UConn Huskies’ basketball team, you rarely envision them losing to lesser known schools. Yet on Tuesday night, the Big East tournament received its first betting shocker of the night as the Huskies were decimated by the relentless Red Storm. Can St. John’s keep pouring it on when they face Marquette tonight on the biggest basketball stage in the world?
The Red Storm are just 2-3 SU/ATS in their past five games, with high profile losses to Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Marquette on their recent resume. The loss to Marquette was a tight one with an end score of just 63-61 for the Golden Eagles, and with just a -1.5 point line to cover, the Eagles got the straight up and betting line victory.
That loss two weeks ago has dropped the head-to-head record between these two teams to 7-0 SU for Marquette, which has also gone 6-1 ATS when playing St. John’s. All signs point to the fact that Marquette should earn another, big victory tonight as they roll through the Big East Tournament. However, as last night proved, nothing is guaranteed.
St. John’s Red Storm (17-14) vs. Marquette Golden Eagles (20-10)
Wednesday, March 10th --- Madison Square Garden --- 2:00pm EST
NCAAB Betting Line: Marquette -4 (126)
What differentiates the win over the Huskies and their matchup against Marquette tonight is the in-conference records of both teams. While UConn is a known school in college basketball betting, they’re just 7-11 SU against other Big East schools. Marquette is 11-7 SU in the conference, and are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games.
St. John had a big win last night, but their gas tank has to be empty after unloading on the Huskies. Marquette won’t allow St. John’s to sneak up on them, especially after a two-point win earlier this year. Lazar Hayward will be a force of nature as he always is for Marquette, especially against a smaller lineup from St. John’s. Hayward has 18.0 points and 7.8 boards as the leading producer for the Golden Eagles.
Bet on Marquette tonight. Upsets happen in basketball, but rarely do they occur on back-to-back nights. St. John’s got the headlines last night, but all that will happen at MSG tonight is a proper serving of whoop-ass from the Golden Eagles.
