To earn that they have to strap on their best and hope they don’t become a ranked team that falls to a relative unknown like Syracuse did on Saturday. Saint Mary’s was defeated 83-58 by Gonzaga in last year’s championship matchup.

So what makes this matchup any different? To tell you the truth, not a whole lot. Gonzaga has won the two battles against St. Mary’s Gaels by an average point differential of +13.0 points. In fact, they’ve gone 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against St. Mary’s and have one the last six meetings.

WCC player of the year, Matt Bouldin, has led the Bulldogs with 15.8 points, 4.1 assists and 1.4 steals per game this year. As a four year senior, Bouldin knows the importance of carrying some momentum in to the big dance, and he won’t let his Bulldogs get caught from behind by the wily Gaels.

But hoping and doing are two different things, and the Gaels haven’t been victorious against the Bulldogs in over two years.

The spread seems awfully tight for a head-to-head series that has been anything but, and that has to be attributed to the neutral location of the game. Since it’s in Vegas, it’ll be a stern test to see which team can deliver the goods away from home.
