College Basketball Game of the Week: Kansas Jayhawks vs. Villanova Wildcats

The Villanova Wildcats absolutely destroyed the Kansas Jayhawks a season ago, winning a semifinal game by a score of 95-79 en route to a National Championship. These two teams will meet again this week, but this time the game will be played at historic Allen Fieldhouse. Kansas is the second ranked team in the latest AP Poll, while Villanova checks in at number 21.

Villanova has struggled to find the same level of consistency that led to a title a season ago. The Wildcats have lost a pair of games this season, including a blowout loss to the University of Michigan. Kansas has a pair of terrific wins on their resume already, beating Michigan State and Tennessee, both top-10 teams. The Jayhawks would love to get revenge on the Wildcats for what happened last March.

Lawson, Vick Carrying Jayhawks

Kansas features one of the best inside-outside combinations in the country with Dedric Lawson and Lagerald Vick. Lawson is a junior transfer for Kansas this season, and leads the team with 19.1 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. Vick is a talented senior guard that is shooting 56 percent from the three-point line and pouring in over 16 points per game. The Jayhawks have plenty of other weapons on the roster, but these two players have done the heavy lifting.

The Jayhawks are almost impossible to beat at home, posting a 202-11 record at Allen Fieldhouse under head coach Bill Self. Kansas looked vulnerable in their most recent game, but survived an upset bid by New Mexico State, winning by a 63-60 score. Kansas needs to improve on the defensive end of the floor, as they are allowing 71.4 points per game this season. Look for the Jayhawks to be locked in on Saturday.

'Nova Looking For Guard Play

Villanova lost guards Jalen Brunson and Donte DiVincenzo to the NBA Draft after last season, and they haven't been able to fill that void this season. Sophomore guard Collin Gillespie is averaging 10.7 points per game for the Wildcats, but they need more scoring from that position. Villanova was one of the best shooting teams in the nation a season ago, but are shooting just 34 percent from deep so far this season.

Seniors Phil Booth and Eric Paschall are the only two returners with big game experience for Villanova, and they will be counted on big time in this game. The duo has combined for more than 30 points per game this season, but they will need to provide more scoring if the Wildcats are going to pull off the upset. Villanova has won six straight games after suffering a pair of bad losses earlier this season.

Wildcats Get Blown Out in Rematch

The Jayhawks and Jayhawks fans will be ready for this game. There is no doubt that the Kansas program is dying to get revenge on the Wildcats for what happened in late March. Villanova could very easily improve and make another deep tourney run, but they aren't on the Jayhawks level at this point. Look for Kansas turn the tables on Villanova and get a blowout victory in this game. Bet the Kansas Jayhawks over the Villanova Wildcats in the college basketball game of the week.
