College Football Weekend Wagering
The schedule is getting short, with just three weeks remaining for college football betting in the regular season. This week plenty of BCS contenders are in action, trying to remain focused and not blow their chances at a big money bowl game. Here are three games involving programs in the BCS mix . . .
Florida Gators at South Carolina Gamecocks (+15.5, 43)
The South Carolina Gamecocks in Columbia. This is the point in the season when coach Urban Meyer tries to get his program in championship mode, so expect UF to try to pour it on.
South Carolina's offense is stumbling heading into this weekend. The Gamecocks have scored an average of just over 12 points in their last four games, going 1-4 straight up and against the college football pointspreads. Quarterback Steven Garcia has passed for over 300 yards in each of his last three games, but has connected for just four touchdowns and has been picked off twice in that span.
Arizona Wildcats at California Golden Bears (-1, 55.5)
The Arizona Wildcats control their own destiny in the Pac-10. They currently sit at the top of the conference with a ticket to the Rose Bowl at stake. Arizona must get past four of its toughest opponents to reach that bowl game, starting with Cal on Saturday. The Wildcats may have to do it without tailback Nic Grigsby, who could sit out with a sprained right shoulder. Grigsby leads the team in rushing with 535 yards and five touchdowns.
California Golden Bears will be without its top running threat after star running back Jahvid Best was hoisted high into the air in one of college football's most thrilling – and scary – touchdowns ever. Best was launched jumping over a defender and landed hard on his head, suffering a concussion that could keep him out the remainder of the year. Best, who is fourth in the Pac-10 in rushing, was still recovering from a mild concussion suffered just two weeks ago at the time of the accident.
Utah Utes at TCU Horned Frogs (-19.5, 45.5)
After flip-flopping between quarterbacks the past couple weeks, Utah Utes head coach Kyle Whittingham is confident in his decision to stick with freshman passer Jordan Wynn for Saturday's MWC showdown. Wynn has only started one game this season while playing in only five total quarters of football. However, in that short time the first-year QB has helped lead Utah to back-to-back wins and the No. 14 ranking in the country.
Wynn will stare down one of the nation's best defensive squads this weekend. Texas Christian is ranked third nationally in total yards allowed and has outscored its last four opponents 178-25, covering the college football pointspread in all four contests. With a shot at the BCS title still in sight, the TCU Horned Frogs will dress for success in their biggest remaining game of the regular season. The team will wear new specially-designed uniforms from Nike that have actual scale patterns from horned frogs on the helmet and pants.
