NCAA Football Bowl Betting - Poinsettia Bowl

The Poinsettia Bowl features Northern Illinois Huskies vs. No. 24 Texas Christian Horned Frogs. On paper, TCU is the stronger team, and oddsmakers agree by tagging them as the double-digit favorites. TCU was a sound 8-3 ATS this year and owns the 5th best defense in the nation, while Northern Illinois ranks 73rd. But don't be fooled!

Offensively, Northern Illinois isn't far behind, posting 27 ppg and 388.5 ypg. The Huskies have profited when playing the role of puppy, where they are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games as an underdog. As well, the Huskies are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games as an underdog of 10.5 or greater.

TCU is fourth in the nation in rushing defense, allowing 67.6 ypg. No opponent rushed for more than 131 yards. However, rushing can be an afterthought in the Mountain West Conference, and Huskies RB Garrett Wolfe averaged 158.3 ypg. Wolfe ended the regular season as the top rusher with 1,900 yards. Northern Illinois is just 4-7 ATS, but should be able to cash in this one.
