All right college football betting fans, another week is in the books in what has been one of the most unpredictable college football seasons of all-time. Before bettors move on to Week 12 however, here is a look back at the weekend just past in an effort to assist bettors with their picks for this upcoming weekend’s matchups.
Though the majority of my “lock” picks usually rest with teams that reside outside the Top 25, here is a brief look at how the teams in the Top 25 fared against the spread.
No. 8 Nebraska 39
Nebraska team. I’m going on record right now to say is that if Kansas, (9-0), wins out and doesn’t get a shot at the National title, the already idiotic BCS system should be scrapped immediately in favor of a simple playoff system. The Jayhawks scored touchdowns on 10 consecutive possessions against the Cornhuskers - amazing!
No. 1 Wisconsin 17
Wisconsin to a mind-blowing 12 yards rushing on 37 attempts. Tailback Chris Wells went wild for the Buckeyes in the second half, rushing for three touchdowns.
No. 3 Alabama 34
While No. 3Alabama Tide managed to turn this 7-point spread into a ‘push’ for bettors by gamely hanging in against a clearly better LSU team that could find itself playing in the BCS title game.
No. 4 Arizona State 23
The Arizona State squad and scored their second consecutive win over a Top 10 team as quarterback Dennis Dixon tossed four touchdown passes.
No. 9 Colorado 10
The Colorado from start to finish in their 55-10 shellacking over the clueless Buffaloes. Mizzou signal caller Chase Daniels looked like the second coming of Dan Marino by throwing five touchdown passes against Colorado’s overmatched defense.
No. 10 Troy 34
Troy State team. Maybe it’s me, but I think the Bulldogs are seriously overrated.
No. 12 Oklahoma State 35
Texas covered the 1.5-point spread, but certainly didn’t look good in the process, needing a furious rally to come back from a 21-point second half deficit.
No. 14 Michigan St. 24
Before anyone goes and gets all excited, lets not forget that the Wolverines were losing this game with just over two minutes remaining before quarterback Chad Henne tossed a 31-yard touchdown strike to help the Wolverine eke out a close four-point victory and turn this game into a “push” for bettors.
No. 15Oregon St. 3
Yes, they blew their national championship title hopes early in the season, but USC still managed to cover a 16.5-point spread and may be one of the best teams in the country to bet on down the stretch in my opinion.
No. 17 Vanderbilt 22
The high-scoring Vanderbilt and covering a 14.5-point spread.
No. 21 South Florida 33
Hear that toilet flushing? That’s Cincinnati either now did they?
No. 22 San Jose State 7
Although I didn’t make an official pick on this contest, I loved San Diego State. Starting quarterback Taylor Tharp threw three touchdown passes to lead the Broncos to their seventh consecutive victory.
No. 2 Boston College 17
Although Virginia Tech with two last-minute touchdowns, (to make me a loser), that this team was highly overrated despite their terrific overall record. The Seminoles made me look like a genius by, not only covering the 6.5-point spread, but by winning outright.
This week’s upcoming Top 25 contests also offers college football bettors several opportunities to make successful wagers as many of the Top 10 teams will be playing for a shot at playing in the BCS Championship game.
As usual bettors, do your homework before laying down your hard-earned cash. However, when you find these free picks that look just right to you – and there should be plenty this upcoming weekend – don’t be afraid to pull the trigger – you’ll likely end up smiling – all the way to the bank.
