NCAAF Week 8 Wagering - Miami Hurricanes vs. Duke Blue Devils

Bookmark and Share by Mike Rose

Another great week of Duke Blue Devils (3-2, 3-1 ATS).

It’s a potential benchmark game for HC David Cutcliffe and the Dookies, who can move one step closer towards bowl eligibility with a victory. A loss could be crippling to HC Randy Shannon and the Canes, who are clearly just a shell of their former selves. These teams have met three times since Miami joined the ACC. The Canes are 3-0 SU, but Duke has covered the spread with ease in each of their last two meetings.

Last week was another bitter disappointment for Miami bettors. The Canes defense is suing for lack of support, as QB Robert Marve tossed three interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown, while the special teams gave up a kick return for a touchdown to speedy Joe Burnett. Miami did just enough on offense to win, but their 20-14 victory wasn’t nearly enough to cover the spread as 17-point home favorites.

As for that Miami defense, it held UCF to just 78 total yards of offense, including just four yards on 27 carries. The Knights went just 3-of-18 on their third down attempts. Miami has now dropped three straight football betting decisions. If there’s any good news for Canes bettors, it’s that “The U” is 2-0 ATS on the road this season.

The Blue Devils have been raised to level of respectability in Cutcliffe’s first season as head honcho of the Duke football program. Two weeks ago was a snap back into reality for the 3-1 Blue Devils, as they were shut out 27-0 at Georgia Tech. They dropped to 3-1 ATS and 1-1 in ACC play, but still have a decent chance of qualifying for their first bowl game since 1994.

The difference for Duke bettors this year has been the defense that has improved over two touchdowns per game from last year’s dismal 33.2 points per game allowed. The 18.4 points that Duke is allowing per game currently ranks 33rd in the country.

If there’s any proof necessary that things just aren’t the same in BetUS Sportsbook currently has the ‘total’ sitting at XX.

The Blue Devils are trying to reverse a horrible trend, as they’re just 1-19 SU in their L/20 ACC games. However, they’re on a much better streak of luck for their football bettors that’s seen them cash pointspread tickets in eight of their L/14 overall. Miami has been almost as brutal since the 2006 season, as it’s just 5-13 both SU and ATS in ACC play.
