NCAAF Week 3 Betting Picks

Two weeks of college football action have gone by and we have already seen some pretty fun upsets. We have also witnessed many of the top ranked teams prove that they are the best teams in the country. It's nice to be back at it betting on some football. I'm ready to really dive in and take a look at the "Top 3 Picks" from college football for this week.

Illinois Fighting Illini +17.5 over South Florida Bulls

We have a battle between a pair of undefeated teams playing Friday night at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. The Fighting Illini, led by former Buccaneers head coach Lovie Smith have downed Ball State and Western Kentucky to open up their season. The Bulls picked up back to back wins over San Jose State and Stony Brook. The Week 3 game for South Florida was canceled due to Hurricane Irma.

Look for the Fighting Illini to continue their solid defense, which held Western Kentucky to just a touchdown. The Illini running back Mike Epstein has had a nice start with 82.5 yards per game. South Florida has a ton of talent returning from a season ago, including Quinton Flowers. The quarterback is averaging just shy of 200 yards per game, while throwing 4 touchdowns.

South Florida should have enough firepower to win this game, but the Fighting Illini will cover the +17.5 points they are being given.

P.S. -- If by chance this game gets moved from Tampa to Champaign due to hurricane Irma, the point spread will move significantly. So jumping on the Illini early may be a good idea.

Louisville Cardinals +3 over Clemson Tigers

What a great match-up between the top two teams out of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Lamar Jackson for the Louisville Cardinals is the defending Heisman Champion and continues to roll this season. The Cardinals quarterback has a whopping 771 passing yards and 5 touchdowns already this season, while rushing for 239 yards and 3 touchdowns. Louisville saw Jackson post a QBR of 94.2 in the win over North Carolina.

If there is a team that is going to slow down Lamar Jackson, it will be Dabo Swinney and his Clemson Tigers. The Tigers have allowed just 4.5 points per game with wins over Kent State and Auburn. The Tigers are living life without DeShaun Watson, but have not had a problem moving the football gaining over 470 yards per game.

This is going to be a great game, but the home team prevails in this one. Lamar Jackson will prove to be too much for this Clemson defense. And when a top team is getting +3 points at home -- you take it! Bet the Louisville Cardinals +3 at home over the Clemson Tigers.

USC Trojans -17 over Texas Longhorns

This matchup has a long history as it features two of the top college football programs in the country. The problem is - one of the programs is "elite" right now, while the other program continues to struggle. The Texas Longhorns did pick up a win in Week 2. That was the first win for head coach Tom Herman in Austin. The Longhorns downed San Jose State, scoring 56 points. The good news was the defense finally showed up for the Longhorns after they allowed 51 in their opening loss to Maryland.

The Longhorns will have a tough task defending Heisman candidate Sam Darnold. After some struggles in the opener, Darnold was fantastic in the win over Stanford. The quarterback still has thrown too many interceptions as he has 4 already on the young season.

Look for the USC offense to be way too big, fast and strong for the Longhorns. The spread is set at USC -17. Some may think that's a big number but there is a major talent gap between these two teams. USC wins big at home and covers the -17 in week 2.

So there you have it folks -- my top three college football betting picks for week 2. I'm going with a couple underdogs and a big favorite at home. Cheers to a 3-0 week!
