Red Raiders Roll To Bowl Win In Birmingham

The college football bowl season just keeps rolling along. On Saturday December 23rd, at Legion Field in Birmingham Alabama - the Texas Tech Red Raiders will take on the South Florida Bulls. This is the first game of the day in a trio of games on Saturday.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders come into the game with a 6-6 record. The Red Raiders finished 8th in the Big 12 Conference. Texas Tech finished the season as losers of 5 of their final 7 games, but picked up a road win at the Texas Longhorns in the season finale.

The Red Raiders started the season with three straight wins; over Eastern Washington, Arizona State and on the road at Houston. The other wins were over the Kansas Jayhawks and at home over the Baylor Bears. The losses for the Red Raiders came to Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Iowa State, Oklahoma, Kansas State and at home against the TCU Horned Frogs.

The Horned Frogs are led by their quarterback Nic Shimonek. The quarterback has thrown for more than 3,500 yards and 30 touchdowns this season. His top target was Keke Coutee with 82 receptions, 1,242 yards and 9 touchdowns. Justin Stockton is the top runner for the Red Raiders, and he finished just shy of 700 yards on the ground.

The South Florida Bulls are 9-2 on the season. The Bulls finished second in the American Athletic Conference  - East Division. The Bulls lost to the Central Florida Knights in the conference divisional title game. The Bulls other loss came at home in early November to the Cougars of Houston. South Florida started the season with non conference wins against San Jose State, Stony Brook, Illinois and the Temple Owls.

South Florida saw Quinton Flowers throw for over 2,600 yards this season. The quarterback tossed 31 touchdowns on the season as well. Marquez Valdes-Scantling caught 50 passes for more than 740 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns. Flower also was the leading rusher for the Bulls, and needs just 28 yards to reach 1,000 on the season.

This should be a pretty fun Bowl game. The South Florida Bulls come into the game come into the game as the favorite. The Bulls are just under a field goal favorite against the Red Raiders. Texas Tech certainly has been tested more than South Florida. The Big 12 was a gauntlet all season long with numerous teams in bowl games.

If the Red Raiders can slow down Flowers they should have no problem winning this game. Look for the Red Raiders defense to put an emphasis on keeping an eye on Flowers at all times.
