Virginia Is For Lovers [Of College Football]

Two ranked teams out of the Atlantic Coast Conference are ready to mix it up in Blacksburg as the Clemson Tigers take on the Virginia Tech Hokies. The 2nd ranked Clemson Tigers are unbeaten on the season, with 4 straight wins. Against the Spread the Tigers are 3-1 with wins over Kent State, Auburn and Louisville. The lone ATS loss for Clemson Against was last week, when they smashed the Boston College Eagles by 27, but failed to cover the 33.5 point spread. The Tigers have split their over/unders on the season.

The Virginia Tech Hokies on the other side are also 4-0, and have covered the spread in every game except the 27-0 home win over Delaware. In that game, the Hokies were 41 point favorites. The other three wins for the Hokies came over West Virginia at home, on the road at East Carolina and at home against Old Dominion last week, where they won 38-0.

Kelly Bryant is having a fantastic season for the Clemson Tigers, as he has replaced DeShaun Watson, who is now the starter for the Houston Texans. He has thrown for 873 yards and 7 touchdowns this season, with Ray-Ray McCloud as his top target. Travis Etienne is the leading rusher for the the Tigers, with over 290 on the season. Clemson is the defending National Champion after beating Alabama last last season, and the Tigers are seeking their third straight trip to the national title game.

Clemson has started the season against one of the toughest schedules in all of college football. This is the third ranked team the Tigers have battled against this season. The schedule appears to get softer for the Tigers, as they take on Wake Forest, Syracuse and Georgia Tech in their next three games. Clemson, led by head coach Dabo Swinney will finish the season with games at North Carolina State, home against Florida State, and the season finale will be on the road against rival South Carolina.

Virginia Tech has seen Cam Phillips put together a nice season, as the leader with 5 touchdowns. He also leads the team with 523 receiving yards. The quarterback has been Josh Jackson, with 1,128 yards on the season as well. Travon McMillian is the top running back, with 162 yards on the season.

The Hokies have been really solid on the defensive side of the football. While they allowed 24 against a high scoring West Virginia team, and 17 against East Carolina - the other two wins over the Hokies were shut-out wins. Virginia Tech is one of the favorites to get to the Atlantic Coast Conference title game, but they will have a tough task competing with Duke and Miami for the top of the Coastal Division.

This is going to be a really nice college football game. For Week 5 of the season, this could be one of the best games of the day. The Clemson Tigers are a team that many have doubted all season long, but much of that gets quieted with the play of their quarterback. Lane Stadium in Blacksburg is a tough place to play, and will give the Tigers all they can handle.

Look for a back and forth game, and a game that could be a lower scoring event. Both of these defenses have talented players on the front end, and are good at defending against the pass. It's going to be quite important to make sure both offenses take care of the football all night long. A turnover in this game could be the difference maker between a big win and a tough conference loss.

In the end though, Clemson, and their experience is going to find a way to win this game. My bet is on the Clemson Tigers -6.5 over the Virginia Tech Hokies this Saturday.
