The Wolf Pack opened the season against a couple of softies; first, they crushed Eastern Washington of the college football subdivision 49-24. Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick threw for over 300 yards and rushed for 60 more, throw no TD passes but scoring two on the ground.

Against Colorado State, Kaepernick was just as dominant, throwing for 241 yards with two touchdowns in the air and scoring another two on the ground. He led the team in rushing for the second straight game, gaining 161 yards on the ground.

Kaepernick will be the focus of The Golden Bears’ defense has only allowed 10 points combined in their opening two games. Against Colorado, they sacked the quarterback six times and caught three interceptions and in Friday night’s game Kaepernick will have a target squarely on his back.

In both of Cal’s games this season, they’ve put 52 points on the board. Cal is using a balanced attack with the team scoring seven passing touchdowns and five rushing touchdowns.

Before we make our college football betting picks, let’s look at the trends. The California Golden Bears are 6-1 against spread in their last 7 September games but are 0-5 in their last five games against the Western Athletic Conference. The Nevada Wolf Pack are 5-0 in their past five games following a straight up win but just 1-4 ATS in their past five September games.

The trends don’t make our college football betting picks easier but when you have two high powered offenses, you need to lean towards the team with the best defense and clearly the Golden Bears have a stifling defense.
