Two of college football's highest-scoring teams meet in Lubbock on Sunday as SMU and Texas Tech will trade hay-makers in what could be one of the wildest, most entertaining games of the season for college football line betting fans.
The over/under for this game is 60 ½ but it could easily surpass that. Now, fans are wondering whether or not the Mustangs can pull off a big upset in Sunday's wildest college football game on paper.
SMU Mustangs at Texas Tech Red Raiders
3:30 pm ET Sunday, ESPN
College Football Line: Texas Tech favored at -14.
Texas Tech has a historical advantage in this one, leading the all-time series 31-16 and winning in a blowout in the two teams' meeting in 2008. But SMU won just one game that year before Jones turned them into an 8-5 outfit last year including a big bowl win.
It's too bad that Texas Tech ex-boss Mike Leach can't be around for what would have been a run n' shoot legends matchup, but new coach Tommy Tuberville plans to keep the Red Raiders as a pass-happy squad while mixing in a little more of a running attack as he continues to work over the roster into something a little more balanced from what Leach had.
This is a college football game where the Red Raiders should be on high upset alert as getting caught up in a shootout with the Mustangs could prove to be a bad choice.
Kyle Pardon returns after being named MVP of the Hawai’i Bowl last year and Taylor Potts will be a worthy counterpart to him for Texas Texas in this as the Red Raiders look to cover the college football line.
With Texas Tech in transition and Tuberville claiming he'll run the ball more and the SMU Mustangs ready to ascend, this is a dangerous game for the Red Raiders and one that could easily see SMU cover the spread in a high-scoring affair. Go with the Mustangs, who will be playing loose with nothing to lose on Sunday. One of two turnovers or surprising stops against a new Texas Tech offense and they could even pull one of the biggest upsets of the early season in college football this Sunday.
College football line pick: SMU (+14).
