NCAAF Week 14 – Mississippi State Bulldogs vs. Mississippi Rebels

The 2008 edition of the Egg Bowl is here, and BetUS Sportsbook has all of the football betting options available to sports betting aficionados. The Mississippi Rebels (7-4, 7-3 ATS) will look to improve their bowl position at the expense of its rivals, the Mississippi State Bulldogs (4-7, 4-6 ATS). Head coach Sylvester Croom’s bunch won last year’s rivalry game 17-14, but Ole Miss won the college football betting battle by covering the 4.5-point spread. The Rebs are 6-2-1 ATS in their L/9 games with MSU, but the Bulldogs are winners of two of the L/3 meetings. The home team has won eight of the L/9 games in this series.

The Bulldogs may not be going bowling this season, but they finally showed some friskiness last weekend by beating Arkansas 31-28 as short home underdogs. The victory snapped a string of four straight covers against Mississippi State bettors. RB Anthony Dixon had a tremendous game for Mississippi State, toting the rock 23 times for 179 yards and a touchdown and another 32 yards and two scores through the air. QB Tyson Lee completed 23-of-40 passes for 219 yards and those two TDs. It was a rare offensive explosion for MSU, which ranks 105th in the nation at 298.7 yards per game and 114th with 16.6 points per game.

If the Bulldogs are going to win the Egg Bowl, it will be because of their defense. The unit ranks 26th in the nation, allowing just 314.6 yards per game, and is particularly strong against the pass, ranking 15th in the land.

The MSU defense should provide an excellent test for QB Jevan Snead and the Ole Miss offense that ranks 39th in the country with 393.0 yards per game. HC Houston Nutt has had a fantastic first season in Oxford. The Rebels have run off four straight victories, none bigger than last weekend’s 31-13 romp in the Bayou against LSU. Snead went 16/25 for 274 yards and two scores.

The defense was tremendous in the victory making the Tigers’ offense look anemic. They only managed 215 yards of offense, including just 37 rushing yards. Ole Miss forced two turnovers. It was the fourth game in the L/5 for the Rebs that went under the ‘total’.

Oddsmakers have lined Ole Miss as 16-point home favorites in this traditional rivalry game, and the game ‘total’ has been set at 46.

Considering the recent form of ‘unders’ in Mississippi games, it may not be a bad option for football bettors in this spot. The NCAAF Betting trends also support this, as Mississippi State has played eleven of its L/16 games under the ‘total’.

Oxford has been a terror for the opposition of late. The Rebs are 10-4-1 ATS in their L/15 games at home. They’re also 7-3 ATS in their L/10 games in conference.
