Week 9 NCAAF Analysis – Boise State Broncos vs. San Jose State Spartans

Friday Night Football heads to San Jose for another great WAC betting match-up between the Boise State Broncos (6-0, 3-2 ATS) and the San Jose State Spartans (5-2, 5-1 ATS). For San Jose State, a bowl birth is on the line. Boise State ranks #13 in this week’s AP Poll and will look to keep its BCS hopes alive with a victory Friday night. The winner of this game will hold sole possession of first place in the WAC.

Since these two teams began playing one another back in 2001, Boise State has dominated the series, going a perfect 7-0 and outscoring the Spartans by the average score of 48.1-17.9. Last year, the Broncos destroyed SJSU 42-7 in Boise as 25.5-point home favorites.

The Broncos forced Hawaii QB Inoke Funaki into five interceptions last Friday night, but still couldn’t figure out how to put enough points on the board to cover the lofty 23-point spread for their football bettors against a hapless Warriors offense.

QB Kellen Moore went 25/33 for 256 yards and three scores, but a lack of a rushing game really prevented Boise State from putting more points on the board in the second half. They only managed 111 yards on 31 carries, almost a half a yard less than what they were averaging coming into the match-up.

‘Under’ bettors rejoiced once again, marking the third straight BSU game that never seriously threatened the ‘total’. The Broncos are a solid all-around ball club, as they rank in the Top-50 in the nation in almost every major statistic both offensively and defensively.

San Jose State bettors have quietly been amongst the happiest in the nation, now covering the spread in eight of their L/9 NCAA football betting match-ups. Last Saturday, New Mexico State was the victim, as the Spartans defense was stifling, only allowing 284 total yards and forcing four turnovers. Two came by way of interceptions that were returned for touchdowns, which ultimately accounted for 14 of the 31 total points SJSU put on the board.

The 31-14 final took care of the short spread with ease, but the numbers are a bit deceiving. The Spartans only managed 201 total yards of offense. They rank 99th in the country with 313.4 yards per game, but they have excelled on defense, ranking in the Top-25 in total yards allowed (272.6), rushing yards allowed (86.7), and points per game allowed (16.6).

Betting trends suggest a much lower scoring affair on Friday night. Boise’s last ten road games have resulted in eight ‘unders’, while the Spartans have been a dead nuts ‘under’ team for quiet awhile now. They are an astounding 22-4-1 for ‘under’ bettors in their L/27 WAC games as well; the last three meetings between these two WAC rivals have gone ‘under’ the ‘total’.

The Broncos have excelled under the Friday night lights in recent history. The ATS defeat to Hawaii marked the first time in nine Friday night games.

Offshore oddsmakers have lined Boise State at (–7.5) with a game ‘total’ of 43.5. Whether you prefer betting on sides, ‘totals’, or moneylines, BetUS Sportsbook is your official home for football wagering action for this Friday night fight! Login to your account right now and place your NCAA bets!
