Salute The Troops: Army Knights vs Navy Midshipmen

Navy Midshipmen (3-9) vs. Army Knights (9-2)
Saturday, December 8th - 3:00pm ET - Lincoln Financial Field
Betting Line: Army -6.5, Total 40.5

This Saturday, December 8th, college football fans will be treated to the annual Army-Navy Game. This is a storied rivalry rooted in patriotism and competition. In other words, Merica! The game will mark the end of the NCAAF regular season and the final game in the season's Commander-in-Chief's Trophy series.

The Army-Navy series first began in 1890, over a century ago. Navy won that game 24-0. Navy leads Army 60-51-7 in the series. The biggest win and longest winning streak also belong to the Midshipmen. Navy's 51-0 shutout of Army in 1973 stands as the biggest margin of victory between the two programs. Navy won 14 straight over Army between 2002 and 2015. Since then, Army is 2-0 over their most respected rival.

The series has been played in over a dozen different stadiums across the nation. This year's game will be held at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field, home of the NFL's Eagles. Navy is 10-1 when they meet the Knights at the venue.

The Knights have beaten the Midshipmen by a tight margin in their current winning streak. Since 2016, Army has outscored Navy 35-30. Army owns Navy against the spread in recent years. They're 7-2 against the spread in the series since 2009.

The biggest trend to follow here is the total. The last 12 matchups have all gone Under. Seventeen of the last 22 games between the two have also gone Under.

Army has shredded defenses all year. They finished 6-3-1 against the spread and have won their last seven games. Navy, who finished just 3-9, have covered the spread in their last three games.

Forty points feels like an awfully low total for this game, regardless of what the trends say. Army alone has averaged almost 31 points per game this season. Navy put up 26 points per contest themselves.

Army will come to play, but Navy won't roll over. I'm taking the points and betting the over in this game. This will be a fun one to watch as we wait for the NCAA Football Bowl Games to kick off.
