Football handicappers have to love the BCS National Championship Game, right? BCS Championship Game odds can be found on a number of different props, totals and spreads.
One of the best wagers for the big game on January 10th is on the Team Total Points. Both Auburn and Oregon are known as strong offensive teams, but when it comes to their defenses, many football fans believe that both teams leave something to be desired. Will one of the defenses come up big and provide an under on the Team Total Points in what many are saying could end up being the highest scoring BCS Championship Game in history?
BCS National Championship: Oregon Ducks (12-0) vs. Auburn Tigers (13-0)
Where: University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, Arizona
When: Jan. 10th, 2011 at 8:30 pm EST
Team Total Points
Auburn Tigers Over/Under 38 -115
Analysis: This is actually a tough bet on BCS Championship game total to handicap in the sportsbook. The total of 38 makes all of the sense in the world, right? Auburn scored 38 points or more in 7 out of their 13 games during the regular season. They took apart Arkansas State 52 to 26, UL-Monroe 52 to 2, Arkansas 65 to 43, Ole Miss 51 to 31, Chattanooga 62 to 24, Georgia 49 to 31 and South Carolina 56 to 17. Over the total looks like a shoo-in, but Auburn faces a good adjusting D in Oregon that gave up 35 points or more (I'll make it 35 for the sake of analysis because Auburn's offense is better than many of the teams that Oregon faced in the Pac 10) in 0 out of 12 games this season. The Ducks gave up 30 or more points in only 4 games this season. Based on my analysis, I have to go with under the Total Team Points of 38 on the Auburn Tigers.
Pick: Under 38 -115
Over 35 ½ -120
Under 35 ½ +100
Analysis: This bet on BCS Championship Game total is much easier to handicap. The Oregon Ducks are going to squash the 35 ½ Total Team Points on Monday night. They're going to blow the total out of the stadium on January 10th. Oregon scored 35 ½ points or more in 11 out of 12 games during the regular season. They scored 40 points ore more in 10 out of 12 games during the season. They scored 50 points or more in 5 out of 12 games during the season. Get what I'm saying, my friends? Oregon has one of the best offenses in college football history. They average a ridiculous 49.3 points per game. Auburn's D allowed Kentucky to score 34 against them, Ole Miss to score 31 and Georgia to score 31. Does the Tigers' defense have any shot of keeping Oregon below 36 points in this game? I don't think so.
Pick: Over 35 ½ -120
