BetUS.com Heisman Report – Texas Tech Raiding the Race!

Bookmark and Share by Tim Furious

This has been a two horse race ever since Chase Daniel of the Missouri Tigers decided to drop out of contention. Sam Bradford and Texas’s golden boy, Colt McCoy, are the heavy favorites, but there’s one name I’ve neglected this entire college betting season. If you’re looking for a sleeper in the Heisman Race then pay attention, kids.

Sam Bradford (QB) – Oklahoma Sooners

Bradford chalked up perhaps the worst performance of all time, completing 13-of-32 attempts against lowly Kansas State. Still, he added three touchdowns to his totals which are what he needs to do to keep pace with the current leader. Of all candidates, Bradford has the most passing touchdowns of any contending quarterback, but the Sooner have to start winning matchups decisively and Bradford’s numbers have to be astronomical.

Next Game: Nebraska vs. Oklahoma -21

Colt McCoy (QB) – Texas Longhorns

No team is stunning the betting community more than Texas. The Texans remain undefeated and are temporarily holding off Alabama and Penn State for the top ranking in the AP rankings. After a startling 391 passing yard performance against Oklahoma State, McCoy has cemented his feet in the Heisman race as the leading candidate. He’ll have to hold off Bradford, but the matchup with a rowdy Texas Tech team has someone else in range…

Next Game: Texas -4 vs. Texas Tech

Graham Harrell (QB) – Texas Tech Raiders

With 3,147 passing yards, Harrell is the leading yard tosser in this competition. With an unbelievable performance against Kansas, where he blasted the Jayhawks for 386 yards and five touchdowns, Harrell is now being taken seriously in this race. He has over 100 more attempts than McCoy or Bradford, but he’s making the most of it. With Michael Crabtree as his main weapon and scoring threat, Harrell and the Texas Tech Raiders could seriously screw up the BCS picture if and when they give the Longhorns a serious run for their money.

Next Game: Texas -4 vs. Texas Tech

Shonn Green (RB) – Iowa Hawkeyes

The Hawkeyes have been scoring in bunches, rushing for 195.9 yards per game and scoring 29.8 points per game. The main reason is Shonn Green, whose Youtube highlights are making the rounds on the internet. He may not be in the national spotlight, but in this race he’s the little engine that can. A 217 yard performance highlighted by four touchdowns will secure the faith of the Iowa betting faithful in general. Another performance like that will only further his chances of being an upset specialist in the Heisman Trophy race.

Next Game: Iowa -2.5 vs. Illinois

Javon Ringer (RB) – Michigan State Spartans

Ringer’s 194 yard performance gave him a 5.2 yards per carry average. He’s the yards leader in the country right now, but only slightly. Greene is making more of an impact with the cult following he is getting from the college football crowd and Ringer’s fantastic numbers are getting overshadowed by the quarterbacks in this race and the other two tailbacks pressing from behind. He’s going to have to do something incredible to stay on pace, and a matchup with Wisconsin might just be what the doctor ordered.

Next Game: Wisconsin vs. Michigan State -5.5

Donald Brown (RB) – Connecticut Huskies

Brown is a tour de force on the ground, and I’ve been hesitant to lump him in to this race. He is the central cog of the Connecticut offense, and pulled in a nice 150 yard performance against the Bearcats this past weekend. He is on pace to out-rush Javon Ringer, but needs to keep his numbers up as Shonn Greene advances in the voters’ eyes.

Next Game: West Virginia -2.5 vs. Connecticut
