BetUS NCAA Football Proposition Odds
Who Will Have the Most Regular Season Wins?
ST. LOUIS RAMS +3 wins (-140)
MISSOURI TIGERS -3 wins (Even)
Missouri catches a break this season because the Tigers don't have to play Kansas) made it to the BCS instead.
Missouri gets all kinds of weapons back this year, and that includes quarterback Chase Daniel, who was a prominent Heisman Trophy candidate as the season progressed, and Jeremy Maclin, who gained 2776 all-purpose yards in 2007 (through rushing, receiving, and kick returns), who has a chance to emerge as a Heisman contender if continues to make big plays.
Missouri is arguably a Top 5 team at the season's outset, and all the games are winnable. In the 12-game schedule, they could conceivably lose to Illinois in the season opener, at Texas on October 18, and at home against Kansas on November 29. Against Texas, they might be an underdog. In the others, they won't.
So an 11-1 season is well within reach. That means the Rams will have to win eight games to get a tie, and nine to win the prop. Can they?
Well, I have painted myself into something of a spot already here, because when I was doing season previews for BetUS, I ticketed the Rams for significant improvement over last year's horrible 3-13 season. So many extraordinary things happened to the offensive line that it is almost unfair to judge them off last year's record. That is why it's almost fruitless to go up and down the schedule, since you can't use last year's Ram team as much of a barometer. But it is fair to say that Marc Bulger has demonstrated he can do much better when he has protection, and he showed some form in coming back to play well in last week's exhibition game.
Steven Jackson has signed a deal, and he is in camp and should be a factor from the outset. Tight end Randy McMichael may be a key man, if he doesn't have to stay home and aid in pass protection. The young wide receivers like Keenan Burton and Donnie Avery are going to surprise some people. The defense becomes a question, as Chris Long, the first-round draft choice, has to adapt to a new scheme. But I am okay with going out on a limb here, and sticking with my convictions. I'll lay the -140 and take the three wins with the Rams in this special BetUS college football prop, hoping for St. Louis to hang in there and contend for a playoff spot.
