NCAAF Heisman Race – It Ain’t Over yet
by Tim Furious

Well, that made it easy. Sam Bradford and the Sooners absolutely crushed the Texas Tech Red Raiders in anti-climatic fashion with a decisive 65-21 victory. Whenever you lose by 44-points, you can’t be considered a BCS threat, especially if you’re Texas Tech. Granted, it’s their only loss on the season, but the Raiders have been shot back down to purgatory for now.
So how does this affect the Heisman Race? Colt McCoy and Graham Harrell might get invites to New York, but there are only two real guys who can have a serious crack at Sam Bradford.
OUT OF THE RUNNING
Javon Ringer (RB) – Michigan State Spartans
A polished season does not a Heisman winner make. Ringer has 1,590 yards on the season with 21 touchdowns, but his consistency has been the major question mark. In at least four games this season, he ran for less than 90 yards. That’s not what you want out of a Heisman candidate running back.
Next Game: OFF
Colt McCoy (QB) – Texas Longhorns
He lost to Texas Tech and Oklahoma in the same season. While putting up decent numbers of 3,134 passing yards and 38 total touchdowns, he’s not going to be able to contend straight up with Bradford.
Next Game: Texas A&M vs. Texas -34.5
Chase Daniel (QB) – Missouri Tigers
A 171.18 quarterback rating will only take you so far in life…
Next Game: Kansas vs. Missouri -12
AS DARK AS A HORSE GETS
Donald Brown (RB) – Connecticut Huskies
Brown is the leading rusher in the nation and has 153.7 yards per game on the season. He’ll have to make a massive splash when Connecticut plays Pittsburgh this weekend to get noticed. He’s been off the radar pretty much all season, which is what happens when you play for Connecticut.
Next Game: OFF
JUST BEHIND PACE
Graham Harrell (QB) – Texas Tech Raiders
Harrell leads the league in passing yards and has 38 touchdowns with only 6 picks. But the loss to Oklahoma will linger fresh in the minds of the committee. A rout of Baylor this weekend may give hi ma shot.
Next Game: Baylor vs. Texas Tech -20.5
Shonn Greene (RB) – Iowa Hawkeyes
The leading tailback candidate made noise when the Hawkeyes managed to upset the Michigan Wolverines at home. With eight touchdowns on the season, Greene isn’t a convincing enough for this guy to get the nod. Notching 100 yards in every game this season certainly helps though.
Next Game: OFF
Tim Tebow (QB) – Florida Gators
Tebow hasn’t had the most consistent year, but when you get 11 touchdowns on the ground and you’re the reigning champ you virtually earn an automatic ticket to New York. Florida is pressing hard for a BCS entry and get to beat up on an old foe this weekend. Expect a huge performance from the man himself.
Next Game: Florida -14.5 vs. Florida State
THE CHAMP IS HERE?
Sam Bradford (QB) – Oklahoma Sooners
Bradford is the best quarterback in the country, with just an inch of advantage over Graham Harrell. The back breaker for both Bradford and the Sooners will knocking off Oklahoma State on the road this weekend. It’s a tight line, but the bigger concern for the sports betting community is that no team has run the gauntlet of Oklahoma-Oklahoma State-Texas-Texas Tech successfully this season. What’s worse? A loss to the Sooners by Texas Tech, or a loss to Oklahoma State? This game has “letdown” written all over it.
Next Game: Oklahoma-7.5 vs. Oklahoma State
