Bet On Football - NFL Week 5 Review
by Robby Maddux

If you bet on Washington at 4-1 SU waiting in the nation's capital as this week's hosts, it may get worse. Or can it? Yes.
The Redskins invaded Tampa Bay (2-3 SU) on the money made list at 4-1 ATS.
In Sunday's win, Clinton Portis ran for 145 yards and one touchdown against the league’s best run defense. The Eagles had allowed just 53.8 per game rushing. Washington’s offense hasn’t committed a turnover all season and they're making a lot of noise in the NFC East under new coach Jim Zorn. And the noise level is about to turn deafening with Washington's next three opponents being St. Louis, Detroit, who's a combined 1-11 SU and 2-10 ATS.
Kerry Collins and the Baltimore, who the Titans had to beat via comeback 13-10 as 1-point road chalk to stay perfect. Collins threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Alge Crumpler with 1:56 left to complete the money-making rally. Tennessee has not allowed more than 17 points in nine straight games, and Baltimore's 1-yard touchdown run by Le'Ron McClain following halftime were the first points scored in the third quarter against the Titans this season.
Tennessee has won eight consecutive regular-season games SU as the longest active streak in the NFL, which includes this their best start in franchise history that can mainly be credited to the league's top-ranked defense that's surrendering a very stingy 11.2 ppg while forcing a league-best 14 turnovers, allowing just 56 points all season as another league-best.
As the Titans are good, Detroit is bad. As the field goal favorites, Chicago was the most recent team to have a laugh at the expense of the beyond lowly Lions, who remains winless with broke NFL wagering fans in Motown supporting them at 0-4 SU and ATS, following a home 34-7 defeat against the Bears. The Lions have been out-scored 38-0 in the first quarter this season, getting outscored 80-20 in the first half. Detroit is going to make a serious run at 0-16.
Chicago's win moves them to 3-2 SU and decent 3-1-1 ATS, breaking a first-place tie with Atlanta, 27-24, as they fall to 2-3 SU and ATS. Nine penalties and giving up 253 yards combined to Atlanta’s Roddy White and Michael Turner didn't help the Packers efforts in covering a 3.5-point spread as chalk.
How about a shout out to the San Diego who the Fins beat last 17-10 as the 6.5 puppies. Quarterback Chad Pennington has put up extremely solid numbers this season: 817 passing yards, a 67 percent completion rate and three touchdowns and one interception. Ronnie Brown rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown in Miami's win that moves them 2-2 SU and ATS, as the Chargers fall to 2-3 SU and 2-2-1 ATS.
Sunday Night Football polished off a great day online Jacksonville and stretched its division lead over Baltimore.
Week 5 online NFL betting action was capped off by arguably the best Monday Night Football game this season, which resulted in a 30-27 Minnesota victory over the hosting field goal favored Saints. The Vikings have now won four straight Monday night games, while the Saints are 8-17 all-time on MNF. Minnesota improved to 2-3 SU and 2-3 ATS.
Week 5 Online NFL Wagering Laughers:
Panthers 34, Chiefs 0: After an upset of the Broncos last week, perhaps Carolina. But it must of been only delusional thinking from its hangover. The Panthers manhandled the Chiefs, as the score indicates, easily covering the spead as 9.5-point faves.
Giants 44, Seahawks 6: Seahawks turned Rams turned Lions turned Bengals turned Texans? Head coach Mike Holmgren should spend less time eating Twinkies and pizza and spend more time trying to improve on his team's ineffective offense and defense, that's burning the Seattle folk's Starbucks funds at 1-3 ATS.
Cardinals 41, Bills 17: Just a bad game by Buffalo or are the Bills about to fall on their face just as it looked like they were contenders? Buffalo's defense made the ageless Kurt Warner look like he was back in his prime.
Week 5 NFL Top-Performers:
— Chicago QB Kyle Orton had a career day in the 34-7 route of the Lions, finishing 24-of-34 with 334 yards and a passer rating of 121.4.
— Clinton Portis rushed for 145 yards and a touchdown against the league’s best run defense. With 514 rushing yards and four touchdowns in five games, Portis is on pace for one of his best seasons ever.

— The Denver Broncos defense. For the first time in four weeks, they held an opponent to fewer than 32 points. Three sacks, one interception and consistent pressure helped the Broncos to hold on for a 16-13 win against Tampa Bay.
Week 5 Notable Headlines at a Glance:
— Tony Gonzalez surpassed Shannon Sharpe’s record for career receiving yards (10,074) by a tight end.
— The Colts are 2-2 SU, but thanks to two inconceivable fourth-quarter comebacks they aren't 0-4. The next five games will make or break this season for the Colts: Baltimore, at Green Bay, at Tennessee, New England and at Pittsburgh.
— Atlanta Falcons wideout Roddy White might be one of the NFL's underrated player at wide receiver. With 454 receiving yards and two touchdowns, he’s well on his way to his first Pro Bowl.
— If it’s not Panthers running backs Jonathan Stewart, it’s DeAngelo Williams delivering a big game. The pair had 228 offensive yards Sunday against the Chiefs.
Week 6 Bye Teams: Buffalo, Tennessee, Kansas City, and Pittsburgh.
