BetUS NFL Week 14 Look Back

Snow?
December football baby!

Snow played havoc with the game plans of many teams in Week 14, but it did make for exciting football. There were a couple of surprises on Sunday, as the Jets remembered how to win a game, while the Panthers continue to be up and down.

Meanwhile, the Colts march on towards perfection and the Steelers bounce back in a big way. Seattle is looking unbeatable and the Pats are slowly starting to find their form. It’s going to be a great finish, so buckle up and enjoy the ride.

Steelers 21 Bears 9

The Bus was taken out of storage and used to run right over the Bears. Pittsburgh played their best game in a month and now looks to make a playoff push. The Bears have got to be thinking about using Rex Grossman, as Kyle Horton was less than adequate again.

Titans 13 Texans 10

Another brilliant Reggie Bush performance by Houston, as they stave off yet another win in favor of keeping their top draft pick status. A late field goal miss by Kris Brown helped Tennessee and Steve McNair not think about how he’s been absolutely physically trashed this season.

Patriots 35 Bills 7

New England is playing well on both sides of the ball right now. Corey Dillon is rounding into form, making everyone in the AFC very nervous about this team these days. Conversely, J.P. Losman flat out can’t play quarterback. Maybe he could pull a Tom Tupa and try out as a kicker or something.

Vikings 27 Rams 13

BetUS is warning NFL teams to be wary of the Vikings. They are beginning to get big plays from their defense and Koren Robinson has ignited their special teams and offense in a big way. Mike Tice has turned the Vikings’ ship around, but will it reach its playoff destination or pull a Titantic? Meanwhile, the Rams just can’t play defense and thrust too much on Ryan Fitzpatrick too soon.

Bengals 23 Browns 20

This state rivalry was a well-played game, as Charlie Frye looked solid once again. Cincinnati did enough to win and needed a close game in December to prepare them for what’s ahead. We get the feeling that Marvin Lewis and Romeo Crennel will have many more riveting duels over the next few seasons. Lewis is just a couple of years ahead of Crennel right now.

Colts 26 Jaguars 18

It was a physical as everyone thought it would be; only the Jags were penalized too often for their brand of toughness. Fred Taylor didn’t deliver, while Peyton Manning killed Jacksonville on third downs. Indy has clinched everything, so we’ll have to see how they play their last three games.

Jets 26 Raiders 10

Clearly Oakland does not like the snow, as New York won this one without Curtis Martin. Was that Brooks Bollinger looking like a real NFL QB out there? We think so. The only negative here is that the Jets probably won’t catch Houston for the Reggie Bush pick. As for the Raiders? We can safely say that Norv Turner is not the answer anywhere!

Buccaneers 20 Panthers 10

Tampa Bay played one of their best games of the season at the most opportune time, making a major statement to the NFL that Carolina is not that much better than anyone in the NFC. Jake Delhomme didn’t come through in the loss, while Chris Simms is definitely getting his bearings at the pro level.

Seahawks 41 49ers 3

This could not have been any more of a lock after only one quarter- including for the lofty spread. BetUS compares this game to an election, where the networks call it over only 5% of the precincts reporting. Shaun Alexander is a touchdown machine and Alex Smith is a sub 100-yards passing machine. We do have to cut him some slack for not having an O-line, but he just doesn’t look good and is probably making Aaron Rodgers chuckle right now.

Cowboys 31 Chiefs 28

It was over. Drew Bledsoe was holding his head in disgust. The Chiefs were celebrating. But no, a holding call gave Dallas another shot and ultimately the winning touchdown. Watching the Chiefs then botch a snap for the last-second field goal was very anti-climatic, as this was a great game deserving of a better finish.

Broncos 12 Ravens 10

Defense was the name of the game here. That and Kyle Boller making his usual idiotic errors. Boller was so erratic that it looked like Billick was ready to beat the crap out of him. Nevertheless, Denver did do enough in their secondary to facilitate the turnovers. Jake Plummer was efficient, but their running game was not a strong as it needs to be. But it was an easy cover for Baltimore.

Dolphins 23 Chargers 21

I know they’re not going to make the playoffs, but Nick Saban has done a wonderful job of already establishing his stamp on this team. They play great defense, run the ball effectively and have some nice big-play guys. Now, if they can just trade Ricky for a pick to draft Leinart, then they’d be all set. For San Diego, they must win out and get help. The Chargers are suffering from one of the worst schedules of all-time, but this was a game they were supposed to win.

Giants 26 Eagles 23

Eli Manning won a December road game and that’s all that matters to Giants fans. BetUS believes that Tiki Barber is getting better with age. Philadelphia came to play and made this one interesting, especially when they caused late-game turnovers. Nevertheless, they miss their big guns and can’t rely on the defense to score points for them.

Packers 16 Lions 13 OT

Detroit looked like two different teams. They had a decent defense but an offense that was out of synch and all over the place. Brett Favre was average, but Samkon Gado was impressive, as his rush attack propelled Green Bay’s late game and overtime push for the win.

Falcons 36 Saints 17

Michael Vick and company took a while to get rolling in this one, but they got the job done. Three defensive sacks and a couple of turnovers helped Atlanta keep their playoff hopes alive. Even without a stellar day by Dunn on the ground, the Falcons showed they can put up points.
