NFL Futures - Vince Young Cited For Assault As Titans Scratch Heads

Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young has been cited for misdemeanor assault after punching an employee of – wait for it – a strip club over the weekend. Apparently Vince Young is too stupid to stay out of trouble during the off-season, despite so many fans and experts predicting he’s ready to take a step in the right direction. All he’s proving is that the Titans are ready to take a billion steps back after nearly busting the playoff picture with a miraculous run in the second half of the 2009 NFL betting season.

First things first, if you’re ever in the back room office of a strip club, just naturally assume that there are cameras there. Also try to keep in mind that when you’re a 6-foot-5, 233 pound, NFL quarterback with one of the most recognizable faces in the league, you probably don’t want to do anything that will land you in the tabloids, let alone the back of a police vehicle.

Maturity has always been an issue for Vince Young. He virtually went suicidal after he lost his starting job to Kerry Collins in 2008. During the last incarnation of the football betting season, Vince was handed the reigns when the Titans went 0-6 SU to open the season, and went 152-for-299, 1,879 yards, 12 total touchdowns, a passer rating of 82.8 and a gut wrenching total of 15 turnovers. Somehow, that was enough for him to get voted in to the Pro Bowl.

In NFL Futures betting, the Tennessee Titans have 14-to-1 (+1400) odds to win the AFC Championship, which puts them squarely in the rear view mirror of the Ravens, Colts, Chargers, Steelers, Chargers and Jets.

Their Chris Johnson and Vince Young are certainly hamstringing those handicaps.

The Titans kick off their Super Bowl XLV quest with a matchup against the Oakland Raiders as -7.0 point favorites in the Week 1 Lines of NFL futures betting.

Vince Young’s obvious immaturity isn’t the only problem surrounding the Titans, who still have Kerry Collins in the mix. Chris Johnson, perhaps the most dangerous weapon in the entire NFL, is immersed in contract negotiations with the money grubbing Titans who have never been known to dish out mega dollars in mega contracts for mega players.

A defense known for run-stuffing will also be without Kyle Vanden Bosch, and are already a year removed from losing Albert Haynesworth. The Titans gave up 258.7 passing yards per game (31st), 106.9 rushing yards (11th) and 25.1 points per game (28th) and without some veteran presence on the line, the Titans’ defense is as messy and muddled as their offensive question marks.

You build every team around a quarterback. That’s without question. What you can doubt, however, is that Tennessee has backed all the wrong players. They should’ve given Haynesworth a better offer. Retaining Vanden Bosch was a must. Give Chris Johnson his money. All this stuff makes sense.

What’s confusing is why the Titans are sticking with Vince Young. A unique talent to be sure, he’s also one-of-a-kind in how stupid he can be after dealing with so many off-the-field issues. As productive as he is on the field, and as dangerous as he can be as a dual threat, Vince Young is getting in his own way. By punching anyone in the face, and having the whole thing caught on camera, he’s also getting in the way of the Tennessee Titans’ not-so-promising-anymore NFL futures betting.
