NFL Week 8 Wagering – Buffalo Bills vs. Miami Dolphins

Bookmark and Share by Mike Rose

Miami Dolphins (2-4, 3-3 ATS).

The Bills have dominated this series since the 2004 season, going 7-1 SU and 7-0-1 ATS in their L/8 meetings. Last season, the Bills beat Miami at Dolphins Stadium 13-10, pushing the 3-point betting line. Historically, these two teams have played incredibly close games in South Florida, as the margin of victory has been just 6.8 points in the L/5 meetings.

If football bettors weren’t believers of the Buffalo Bills before last week, their performance against the Chargers should’ve changed their minds. They played a strong game on both sides of the ball against the Bolts amidst a power outage in Orchard Park that plagued the first half of the game. QB Trent Edwards was fantastic, completing 25-of-30 passes for 261 yards and a touchdown. RB Marshawn Lynch chipped in with 92 total yards and a score.

The day belonged to the defense, though, as it forced three turnovers and held a powerful San Diego offense to just 263 total yards. It all added up to an impressive 23-14 victory, sending Bills bettors back to the windows to cash a winning ticket for the fourth time in ’08.

None of Buffalo’s numbers are stellar this season, but it’s a consistent team that does just enough to win games. They rank just 17th in the NFL in total offense and 10th in total defense, and they aren’t ranked in the Top-5 on either side of the ball in any major category.

Even though there were no issues with the power in South Florida, Miami’s Week 7 betting match-up against the Baltimore Ravens didn’t go nearly as well as the Bills. The single-wing attack finally met its match against the #1 defense in the NFL, as the Fins amassed just 71 rushing yards after averaging 120 yards per game prior.

Miami’s front seven played well recording three sacks and forcing a fumble, but the offense couldn’t do enough to prevent Baltimore from exiting Dolphins Stadium with a 27-13 victory in spite of the fact that it was 3-point underdogs.

The 40 total points was just enough for ‘over’ bettors, who have now cashed four winning tickets in the L/5 Dolphins games.

Short of games against St. Louis, Buffalo hasn’t gotten any respect from the oddsmakers, and continues to be sold short this week. They are 1.5-point road favorites against the Fins in this NFL betting match-up. The ‘total’ has been set at 42.

Even though both teams have played more games ‘over’ the ‘total’ than ‘under’, sports bettors may be wise to bank on a lower scoring affair in this spot. Three of the L/4 meetings between these AFC East rivals has gone ‘under’ the closing ‘total’. The most points the teams combined for in those three games was just 23.
