Follow The Betting Trends For Superbowl XLIV

The New Orleans Saints started the season emphatically, ripping off 13 straight victories as people piled on to their betting bandwagon. They may have been the darling team of the entire NFL, but don’t tell that to their betting backers. The Saints are just 1-6 ATS in their past 7 games, with the crushing blow to Arizona in the divisional playoffs serving as their only spread victory recently. On top of that, for all the marvels their offense performs, the UNDER has been claimed in 4 of their last 6 games.

The Superbowl spread favors the Colts and if that’s any indicator to how the Saints have fared against the oddsmakers and handicappers, things don’t look good for their Superbowl odds of earning their first Lombardi Trophy. For the record, the Saints were just 4-4 ATS on the road this year.

Turning to the Colts, their betting backers could not have been happier this season. Injuries to the defense and the early loss of Anthony Gonzalez shrunk the betting line against Indy which was never an underdog this season. The Colts capitalized going 10-6 ATS this season. In their past eight road games, they’re a strong 7-1 ATS and are a smoking hot 7-2 ATS in their past 9 games overall. The OVER has been hit in 5 of their past 6 games, but most of those TOTALS have been in the low-forties.

If you’re going to bet on the Superbowl spread, then the Colts are the team to take. In terms of beating the books, the Colts have done a marvelous job this season and the Superbowl line, according to the numbers, should be no different. For those of you trying to get your heads wrapped around all the stories emerging from Miami, you may find solace with truth in numbers.
